RetroChallenge announced the results of RC2024/10 and I'm honored to be among the winners. I entered with the WebCard project written in Interlisp, a NoteCards extension for visiting websites.
Thanks to the organizers, voters, and judges and congrats to all the entrants, especially @psychotimmy who won the Grand Prize.

Are the RetroChallenge 2024 entries still supposed to get the final comments? I know they may come in August or September of the following year but the 2025 edition starts in slighly over a month and there are no final 2024 comments yet.

The RetroChallenge announced the winners of the 2024 edition. Great choices, congrats all!

I had a lot of fun entering the challenge, my first one, with a Medley Interlisp project that extended NoteCards to visit websites:

Final wrap-up for #RetroChallenge from me this year. Did the #ZX81 module for the #RC2014 live up to the #RC2024 expectations? Find out here https://rc2014.co.uk/3331/retro-challenge-2024-10-schrodingers-pcb/

I put together a demo hypertext for WebCard with various Web cards and links to play with.

-
I'm working on a WebCard demo notefile with examples of web links filed into various types of cards.
-
WebCard is not a large system but I documented it anyway, explaining the few things it adds to or differs from NoteCards.
-
I needed to find or design an icon for WebCard. How hard could it be?
https://journal.paoloamoroso.com/designing-a-webcard-bitmap-the-hard-way
-
A sneak peek at the bitmap I designed for WebCard cards of type Web, here open in the Medley Interlisp bitmap editor. The bitmap at the actual size is near the top left corner whereas the magnified view takes up most of the window.
The bitmap represents a card at the center of which is a globe with meridians and parallels.

I did a bit of review and charted the next steps for wrapping up WebCard, my RetroChallenge 2024 project.

-
I'm considering the next steps to conclude the work on WebCard project for the RetroChallenge 2024.
-
Since I need to import a bitmap in Medley for WebCard I'm researching some image conversion tools.
-
WebCard now does some basic housekeeping of visited URLs. This reduces web browser tab clutter and keeps unintentional link traversals under control.

A simple tweak to the shape of WebCard cards makes them more visually distinct in NoteCards hypertexts.

So, you want more #RetroChallenge #RC2024 updates? Ok, the RC2014 blog has some updates on the #ZX81 module schematics, and the #Portfolio and #Z88 serial connections to the #RC2014
And for those of you that use RSS, you can subscribe so you always have the latest updates

I finally fixed a URL validation bug of WebCard, which turned out to be just a typo in a clause of an Interlisp iterative statement.
https://journal.paoloamoroso.com/fixing-url-validation-in-webcard
-
WebCard cards of type Web are stand ins for WWW websites. So I changed the code to make the text of such cards read only and refactored the text updating code.
https://journal.paoloamoroso.com/managing-card-text-in-webcard
-
I added two items to the title bar menu of WebCard cards, one for visiting and the other for editing the URL associated with a card.
https://journal.paoloamoroso.com/adding-title-bar-menu-items-to-webcard-cards
-
Really good progress with WebCard today. I learned how to add items to the left-click menu of NoteCards cards, and added the URL visit and edit commands for cards of type Web.
-
I'll just leave this here.
-
Over the past couple of days I worked on some refinements of WebCard related to card initialization and visiting URLs.
https://journal.paoloamoroso.com/working-on-webcard-card-initialization-and-url-visiting
-
Today I reviewed the WebCard code, researched NoteCards, and planned what to do next.
-
I'm struggling with a WebCard bug in an Interlisp's iterative statement, an issue with the syntax of the BIND clause I can't pinpoint. This is part of the work for validating URLs entered by the user when creating Web cards.
