  1. Finally think I have the thank you cards done. I think the smiley face is a cute touch and can't wait to start sending them out with orders. I also have regular note cards, which I need to make bigger, business card sized was too small.

  2. What strategies can be employed to describe a problem and converge on an appropriate hypertext representation? This 1987 paper explored such representation issues with NoteCards, the hypermedia system written in Interlisp.

  13. We retrieved from an old archive "NoteCards User’s Guide" V2.0 and added it to the source tree. Published in 1991, this manual better matches the NoteCards code that comes with Medley Interlisp but some of the information the document provides is now only of historical value.

  14. In NoteCards a "tabletop card" is an arrangement of cards (hypertext nodes) on the screen, such as the 3 cards at the center.

A "guided tour" is a graph whose nodes are tabletop cards (table icons) and whose edges are links connecting the cards. You traverse a guided tour with the control panel at right and the result is a "slide show" of tabletops.

For more on tabletop cards and guided tours see:

  15. A NoteCards "browser" is a type of card that shows a hypertext network as a graph structure, i.e. a graph view like in this example. The thumbnail at the top left corner lets you pan and scroll the graph.

  16. Although NoteCards predated the WWW, in the early days of the web the hypermedia system developed with Interlisp-D was also used for research on the design, analysis, and documentation of web sites such as the projects described in these papers.

  19. A comprehensive introduction to the NoteCards hypermedia system developed in Interlisp at Xerox PARC. This 1985 videotape covers and demonstrates tha basic system, the programmer's interface, and research issues.

  23. WebCard is not a large system but I documented it anyway, explaining the few things it adds to or differs from NoteCards.

  24. A sneak peek at the bitmap I designed for WebCard cards of type Web, here open in the Medley Interlisp bitmap editor. The bitmap at the actual size is near the top left corner whereas the magnified view takes up most of the window.

The bitmap represents a card at the center of which is a globe with meridians and parallels.

  25. I'm considering the next steps to conclude the work on WebCard project for the RetroChallenge 2024.

  26. Since I need to import a bitmap in Medley for WebCard I'm researching some image conversion tools.

  27. WebCard now does some basic housekeeping of visited URLs. This reduces web browser tab clutter and keeps unintentional link traversals under control.

  28. I finally fixed a URL validation bug of WebCard, which turned out to be just a typo in a clause of an Interlisp iterative statement.

  29. WebCard cards of type Web are stand ins for WWW websites. So I changed the code to make the text of such cards read only and refactored the text updating code.

  30. I added two items to the title bar menu of WebCard cards, one for visiting and the other for editing the URL associated with a card.

    journal.paoloamoroso.com/addin

  31. Really good progress with WebCard today. I learned how to add items to the left-click menu of NoteCards cards, and added the URL visit and edit commands for cards of type Web.

  32. Today I reviewed the WebCard code, researched NoteCards, and planned what to do next.

  33. I'm struggling with a WebCard bug in an Interlisp's iterative statement, an issue with the syntax of the BIND clause I can't pinpoint. This is part of the work for validating URLs entered by the user when creating Web cards.
