A while back I did a thread on OLE test trains which you can read here: https://mas.to/@25kV/110895234449246235 More recently, SPL have put together a further iteration of the FrankenTrain™ to test the next stage of Midland Mainline Electrification (MMLE), & today they kindly invited me and a colleague on board to observe high speed testing of the new OLE between Wigston and Kettering North Junction.

One of the things that I spent a lot of time on back in 2019 was sourcing good quality images for the #OLEbook - getting the more obscure stuff from publicly accessible places was quite hard.

Back in 2018 I made this GIF to show the presag in Series 1 overhead line at Swindon... this is a deliberate lengthening of the intermediate droppers (between the 1st and last dropper in the span) to provide presag equal to 1/1000 of the distance between the structures

Droppers are a core element of mainline OLE systems. Their job is to support the contact wire at the correct vertical position. -
