  1. Today I remembered that #SMS and #MMS still exist. If it weren't for a push notification, I would've never noticed that two of my clients are trying to reach me via text. Since #Telegram and #WhatsApp got blocked in our country, many people fled to other platforms — sometimes extremely weird ones.

If before I only had to check two apps, now... **brace yourselves**:
    • VK

    • Telegram

    • WhatsApp

    • Max

    • Email

    • #Matrix

    • #Fediverse

    • SMS

    • #WeChat (yes, I actually have it!)

Multiply all of this by the fact that besides my work accounts I also have personal ones. Everyone is scattered everywhere and it is extremely inconvenient. I'm trying to get all my friends and family onto the #ActivityPub + Matrix combo, but let's be honest, nobody outside our little bubble needs this Fediverse.

The FBI was able to #forensically extract copies of incoming Signal messages from a defendant’s iPhone, even after the app was deleted, because copies of the content were saved in the device’s #pushNotification database

  4. @apa @gsuberland I can think of some disadvantages:
    1. A group may not have a member technical enough and rich enough to operate "a traditional forum"
    2. Signup confirmations too often get dropped without notification by overzealous #antispam
    3. Forum tends not to support mobile #PushNotification, especially on #iOS where notification via #PushAPI cannot cause sound or vibration
    4. Some people don't want their spur of the moment words to be indefinitely publicly indexed in web search as #receipts for harassers to use against them

  6. Washington Post is reporting on #FBI’s increasing use of #pushnotification data to identify people. #Police can request this data from companies like #Apple and #Google without a #warrant.

FBI’s new tactic: Catching suspects with push alerts
The ubiquitous phone feature has powered a #surveillance technique used to catch suspected kidnappers and pedophiles. It’s also fueled fears of a ‘#privacy nightmare’ at a time when abortion is criminalized.

  11. I just received my first #Statistik push notification! Feels like a ginormous time saver to receive a notification when new metrics are available. And to top if off, these metrics are not yet available on App Store Connect ⚡️

@fosiaDesign is cooking on some pretty cool UI-improvements, hopefully we get to push it out later today.

  13. I was surprised at my phone ringing last night, until I realised I got a real non-test push notification from the experimental fork of Nextcloud made by Niklas Reimer. It uses @unifiedpush in the #foss and @fdroidorg compatible version of Nextcloud, and notifications don't go through Google Services or the Nextcloud Push gateway.

    Something very exciting is coming!

  15. @StephduChili Puedes habilitar #PushNotification

Debes ir a los settings, y ahí conseguirás una opción de Push Notification que puedes habilitar, si así lo deseas.

  16. If you feel like the amount of push notifications you get on your phone is not enough, and you want to send yourself push notifications via curl, then you can use ntfy:

    ntfy.sh/

    #automation #curl #PushNotification #alerting #PubSub #tools #DevOps

  19. I wrote my first package (github.com/shombando/ntfy) to interface with ntfy.sh/.

This allows me to send notifications (reminders) to my mobile device from inside Emacs. I plan to tie this into reminders. Potentially even make it bi-directional so a notification from mobile is captured into org. Suggestions and contributions welcome.

  20. Just discovered ntfy.sh/ it's a based service that is incredibly simple to use and easy to . The author even runs an instance for the community that doesn't require any sign-up (keep privacy in mind and hope there's no abuse of this great free service). It supports sub via web app and Android (open issue for iOS).
