We have one bank account left in Michigan, our HSA account, which I never got around to moving to a California bank. I had to call them today and it was so funny to chat with someone in Michiganese. It's not that LA isn't a friendly and/or polite city - it generally is both - but hoo boy, Michigan takes it to another level. Until you've been away from that aggressively polite and friendly demeanor for a while, you kind of forget what it's like.
(also, as I'm typing that hashtag, I'm marveling at how that got to be an actual marketing slogan for the state - kinda creepy given the current political/social environment, tbh)

Whoa! I just got out of bed, and have an appointment in a few minutes, so was killing time online when I ran across this link about a bird that is very rarely seen in Michigan (usually far south, Texas to Florida), and only the 3rd sighting here the photographer captured! (He actually finds and shows this crested caracara at about 2:50.) Very interesting way to kill these few free minutes for me this morning!

I always like it when birds look distinguishable, have odd markings or behavior that I recognize. This Red-winged Blackbird seems to be growing new wings on his shoulders, and I think it looks really cool and dramatic how the sheaths are slowly turning into real feathers. He did like to present himself properly, too.
