The US was not mentioned in this article about the UK ending jury trials for lower offenses. The US also used the excuse of overburdened courts to force nearly all (98%!) criminal cases to go through plea deals.
Here that looks like not everyone getting the right to a trial by jury of their peers. Police and prosecutors collude to stack charges to push defendants to take plea bargains, which leads to more people in custody.
