  1. How Videos Helped Me Uncover #Abuse at an #Arkansas #PrivateSchool

But since this happened at the #DeltaInstitute , a private school, I didn’t have access to the types of public records — incident reports, emails and video — that might have existed at a public #school. The only reason we knew that something awful had happened here was that law enforcement got involved. I would have to keep reporting for weeks until the criminal case was closed. Then I could start pursuing the video evidence.

I had come to Northeast Arkansas, just outside of #Jonesboro , to report on private schools that have been opening in response to state legislatures increasingly setting aside public money for parents to spend on private education. Our reporting shows that more public money doesn’t necessarily translate to more transparency.

  2. #Alabama #taxpayers are funding #Christian #textbooks that lie to #children

Last year, Alabama passed the #CHOOSEAct, which gives #families thousands of dollars to spend on #privateschool #tuition, #privatetutoring, or #educational material.

That means we now have a sense of how that money is being used. According to Rebecca Griesbach of AL com, a lot of the money is funding #Christianity.

  3. Boost this forever: 90% of the #vouchers recipients WERE ALREADY ENROLLED IN AND COULD AFFORD #privateschool. #Arizona didn’t get a shoutout in this piece, but let me tell ya as a teacher in the #PoorestState we’re shaking our heads at neighboring states who do so little with so much. #charter #privatization #civilrights #education davidpepper.substack.com/p/the

  4. For #newmexico, block grants instead of #title1, #title2, and #title3 funding would cripple our state’s ability to #educate #students with the highest needs - indeed any New Mexican child. Rich states get richer, #poor states get poorer. If #schoolchoice really was about what’s best for kids, why is there never talk of negotiating #privateschool #tuition down from being at least 3x the per capita allocation of #publicschool? edweek.org/policy-politics/a-b

  5. @fulelo With the placement of Fake Wrestling mogul Linda McMahon at the head of the Department of #Education you can add the cost of #PrivateSchool to the hyper-#inflation that will accompany #AmericanCarnage 2.0 and implementation of #Project2025. #USpol

  6. Long story short.

A young school student in a group of riders, with teacher ‘supervision’ collided with me on the bike path this afternoon. When I confronted the teacher on why they weren’t being properly supervised I was told they were and colliding with other people is part of the lesson.

Didn’t realise I signed up to that or the injury (minor) is sustained just by being out in the public.

  7. The proposed school, St. Isidore of Seville #Catholic Virtual School, was pitched as an online #CatholicSchool for students in rural areas & throughout the state of #Oklahoma, w/ #religious instruction woven throughout the #curriculum.

But instead of operating as a #PrivateSchool w/ #families paying tuition, St.Isidore applied for status as a #CharterSchool, a type of #PublicSchool that is financed by #taxpayer dollars, but run independently.

  8. I always mention I don't have kids, but still pay into public education, because it's not about "your kid's money". If it were, childless people would get an exemption for all programs geared toward helping kids, including education funding. We don't, because that's NOT how it works, as this screen shot explains.

  9. Excerpt: “We have to get real. Speech because it’s sympathetic to Palestinians or because it’s critical to Israeli military or because it evokes a sense of conscience for humanity, it doesn’t make it antisemitic, it doesn’t make it anti-Jewish, it’s not disruptive and it’s not inciteful,” Saleh said. “You can wish peace to Israel and say free Palestine at the same time.”
