Due to the primacy effect and recency bias, one's perception is largely impacted by the first and most recent contact.

For example, if you talk to a friend whom you haven't contacted for years, their perception of you might be frozen from the last time you were together. Similar principles apply to one's impression of a city, even though things might have changed dramatically.
