Do U.S. voters realize the scale and cost of the 47th #POTUS's *drastic* #immigration "slow-walking"?
This backlog is bigger than ALL FOUR YEARS of the 45th POTUS's term.
It's stopped TONS of #science by removing work authorization from LOADS of #scientists who were ALREADY LEGALLY WORKING HERE FOR YEARS (e.g., when graduating Ph.D. #students or #postdocs have to transition to an H-1B #visa when OPT expires).
We had to halt multiple #decisionScience projects when a Research Project Manager completed their doctorate. Why? Because #USCIS simply isn't processing certain #OPT applications — and #H1B processing is much slower than normal times. In the past year, the #UnitedStates multiplied this loss of #innovation and #productivity by HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS! And with no detectable benefit to #security, etc.
Naturally, the highest-skilled foreign nationals are taking their skills to other countries, contributing to further #brainDrain from the #USA.
Incredible waste and inefficiency.

Das neue #WissZeitVG ist natürlich keine Stärkung der Wissenschaft sondern eine Stärkung der Industrie, insb. bzgl. #Postdocs.
Es wird dadurch ja nicht magischerweise mehr Postdoc-Stellen geben (noch dazu unbefristet) sondern #PhDs werden einfach dazu gezwungen, auszuwandern oder in die Wirtschaft zu gehen.
Das ist schon allen klar, oder übersehe ich da etwas? -

I haven't contributed as much here recently - been rather busy working with our #postdocs to process samples from #polarnight. As shown by one of the team, this requires a laser-like focus to avoid contamination or sample thawing while working in the dark...

@schoolingdiana @phdstudents Good luck! I'm sure you'll smash it like many of us. I'm only one month in and enjoying my PhD so much. We have a great community of #supervisors, #postdocs and #students in our lab/ department. I'm fortunate I have formed a great supervisor/ student relationship, and can trust each of my supervisory teams. A great #relationship is certainly essential for PhD study.
