It's been a busy few weeks, what with travel for work, birthday parties, and tedious illness. But this weekend, I should be able to get back to making some wee birdies (with a break for the Italy vs Scotland match of course).

I've made simple sketches, mapping colours and some blending thoughts. The drawings are the same size as I will make the initial cane, so I'll use them as a map and lay the shaped blocks on top to check sizes.

Sculpy Air dry Porcelain claims to have zero shrinkage but *in my experience* it's got between 2 - 4 mm of shrinkage depending on project, and that might not seem like a lot - but - it can make a MASSIVE difference when creating miniatures or dealing with fine details.

A wheatear... one of my favourite summer visitors.
It's one of the first of a little project I've started working on where I'm making local birds out of polymer clay. It won't stay this big - it will be "reduced" (to follow!). Having said that, this is definitely much bigger than I intended, so yet another lesson learned.
As someone clever once said, "He who never made mistakes, never made anything".

I guess I do have a thing for tentacles 😆 and this little man protects the toothpicks with everything he got! Made from polymer clay and painted with acrylics 🎨
