El Observatorio Astronómico del IPA tiene el agrado de invitarles a esta charla magistral a cargo del astrónomo Lic. Julio A. Fernandez y organizada por los colegas profesores de Epistemología del IPA. A continuación el resumen de la actividad
En el marco del ciclo de clases abiertas de los cursos de Epistemología y Filosofía de la Educación, invitamos a participar de la actividad "El cielo y la memoria", a cargo del astrónomo y profesor Julio Ángel Fernández Alves.
Julio Ángel Fernández es licenciado en Astronomía por la Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Universidad de la República. Realizó investigaciones en el Observatorio Astronómico de Madrid y en el Instituto Max-Planck de Aeronomía de Alemania, y fue profesor visitante en el Observatorio de Valongo de la Universidad Federal de Río de Janeiro. Fue decano de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Universidad de la República y es investigador nivel III del Sistema Nacional de Investigadores de Uruguay. En 2006, durante el congreso de la Unión Astronómica Internacional en Praga, propuso la nueva definición de planeta que dejó a Plutón fuera de esa categoría. En 2016, fue incorporado a la Academia Nacional de Ciencias de los Estados Unidos.
Es autor del libro En Plutón y otras anécdotas. Historias mínimas de la humanidad contadas a través de los nombres de los planetas menores, donde recoge, entre otras, la historia del asteroide AnaDiego, nombrado en homenaje a Ana Teresa Diego, estudiante desaparecida durante la última dictadura argentina.
La charla invita a reflexionar sobre el vínculo entre el cielo y la memoria.

@i_lost_my_bagel This may be a fun time to also bring up Microsoft #Pluton, which may or may not be a part of this same shady infrastructure; the latest and greatest processors have it in addition to the IME/PSP.
(It has a valid overt use case in securing a user's preferred cryptographic keys, but it can just as easily be used to eg. lock stuff out of the user's control.)

Not sure if this ever caught on but the Thinkpad X13 has a custom TPM chip by Microsoft named Pluton. Currently I do not know of any other applications other than the actual Xbox that are using this chip.

The #USGS #BlueHills #quad #bedrock map and a #Quincy #Massachusetts #historical #map show Babel Rock overlooks a pond from just north of a bend in #Wampatuck Rd. I have been on that rock, and it's #diabase, a #mafic #intrusion into the Quincy #pluton. But the USGS #topographic quad & derivatives e.g. #GoogleEarth show it adjacent to the #BunkerHill #quarry (source of the #granite for the monument in #Boston).
Should a correction be proposed to USGS? Advice welcomed.

We walked around #Cohasset, #Massachusetts #USA in the unusually warm (50 F, 10 C) “winter” weather here in #NewEngland. This is an (absurdly) prosperous #coastal community just south of #Boston. The walk included lovely views across coves and marshes (including #invasive Phragmites australis and #peat under #native #Spartina), as well as nice exposures of the > 600 Ma #Dedham #granite, the #pluton coring most of the #Avalon terrane in this area.
