🏒🥅 I’m curious if anyone else (besides NHL Player Safety) thinks a 5 minute major and game misconduct is sufficient to deter cross-checking to the face in hockey?
-
🏒🥅 Hartman attack on Stűtzle not isolated incident. He recently ran Bouchard’s (Oilers) head into the net. Needs significant suspension.
And Kevin B: It’s not on Travis Hamonic to police dangerous players like Hartman. That’s on Wild coach, GM, & NHL -
@timo21 As Bednar says, the bottom line is *player safety.*
Oilers goalie Skinner couldn’t get a ref to blow the whistle -after play had left his zone- when his mask/helmet was loose. Play returned to the zone. Other team scores. Skinner is wondering, WTF? My mask/helmet is loose. I’m telling you. And you allow play to continue?

BOUCHARD’S BONK
What happens when a top-four D gets his bean bonked? Does what happened against Tampa Bay explain Evan Bouchard’s bobbles against the Panthers?
My thoughts on bonks & consequences…#mtbi #headinjury #sportsinjury #playersafety #nhl #hnom #oilers

It wasn't a pretty game last night for Evan Bouchard. I'm thinking the bonk to the head at the end of the Tampa Bay game was having a subtle effect...
I write about it here: https://medium.com/@rev.hanspetermeyer/bouchard-bonk-a4c94c2a7809#oilers #nhl #playersafety #hnom #yeg #Canada #CanadianClub 🇨🇦
@hnom -
Jason Strudwick on the ugly hit on Oilers’ Bouchard late in the game.
I’m with him on this one for sure. I’m also hoping there’s a review from Player Safety and that this repeat offender gets a suspension. That won’t help Bouchard or the Oilers, but it may get a dirty player (& dirty plays) out of the NHL.
An excerpt from the excellent Got Yer Back live podcast…#playersafety

It was a different time & a player’s health was worth a lot less. “On Sept 21, 1969, Ted Green of the ..Bruins and Wayne Maki of the..Blues were involved in a violent stick-swinging altercation... Green ..suffered a fractured skull and a brain injury. The NHL suspended and fined both players. Both players were charged with assault. Maki was acquitted in Feb 1970.“

If you’re a fan of quality players in the NHL…
-
@NosirrahSec @chad
If you have suggestions on how to have impact on GMs’ decisions viz dirty players, I’m all ears. But… Coach decides to play player. GM wants to win games. If coach is “benched,” makes it harder to win. Fines & suspension of players has little impact on GM. Especially if the players are marginal to team play. What impact Reaves susp. on Leafs win/loss over 5 games? Jeannot’s susp. on Kings? But Boeser injured til Nov30? And Nurse til? -
@NosirrahSec @CTHW You leave proof to the player, coach —after the game. If they want it reviewed by NHL (& NHLPA), it happens after the initial call.
If you can’t control your player, they shouldn’t be on your bench. They should not be given ice time.
I don’t know where Jeannott or Reaves fit into the Kings or Leafs game. But their coaches need to send them a message: no dirt. How do we get coaches to pay attn? Give them a hard cost. -
@chad @ryan2one3 Dear hockey guys, I’d love your opinion Re Boeser/Jeannott, Nurse/Reaves. Please see the latest #HNOMpoll. Leave a comment & boost, if appropriate
Thanks -

Re recent & on-going NHL dirty hits & injuries: Should consequences be greater?
“Coaching and management ..also need to take responsibility. This is not rogue players going dirty. They are complicit” ~ @NosirrahSecQ: Should coaches get suspended with their dirty players?
NHLPA, are you listening?
-
@NosirrahSec “Coaching and management of these teams also need to take responsibility. This is not rogue players going dirty. They are complicit.”
Suggestion: Coach gets suspended at least one game for every time one of their players gets suspended for dirty hits. That *may* ripple back to the people in management sanctioning dirty players in their system.
NHLPA, are you listening?
-
@csstrowbridge Yup. Just read that Nurse is out for 5-10 days. With CTE/mTBI these are only best guesses. Boeser out until Nov 30.
And Jeannotte is on the ice again, scoring goals…
And Reaves is out 5 games.
Consequences?Grrrrr
-
CONSEQUENCES?
Did Oilers miss Nurse after the injury? Absolutely. Did it cost them the game? Maybe? But losing Reaves for the game (& next five) is not a “loss” for Leafs.
In Vancouver, the Canucks lose Brock Boeser until Nov 30. The guy who hit him in the head, LA Kings’ Tanner Jeannott, missed only three games! WTF NHL. Seriously, WTF!#WTF #playersafety #oilers #nhl #letsgoOilers #hnom 🏒🥅 #yeg #Canada #CanadianClub 🇨🇦 #canucks #leafs #lakings #leafs https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/oilers-nugent-hopkins-on-reaves-nurse-collision-its-a-dangerous-play/?utm_source=flipboard&utm_content=topic/ryannugenthopkins

@chad Most of all I hope Boeser and Nurse are healthy and ready to return to play, soon.
Besides just generally hoping they’re ok, their teams need them. I’m guessing some of Bouchard’s faux pas this evening may have to do with playing so many minutes (almost 26). The lower 4-5-6-7 D played pretty well. Picked up lots of slack. But a healthy Nurse, playing well as he has been of late, is needed. -
@chad Agreed. As @Scienceisnotopinions said, after seeing Boeser and Nurse hits this week: “These guys and their shoulder hits to the head. 😱”
-
@bc3tech I see your point. But the players (and their advisors, including doctors) seem to want #grass everywhere, because there's more cushion and it's easier on their whole bodies, not just their joints. Having never played #ProFootball, I'm inclined to accept their reasoning. #NFL #PlayerSafety
-
Professional football needs to reconsider the long term and immediate health and safety of players. Money is trumping player safety and as supporters, owners and sponsors we need to stop asking for more competitions and start demanding that safety should be centered.
