Last spin of the night.

A great soundtrack to a very weird movie.
As a songwriter myself, I adore Paul Williams.
As a kid, it started with “Rainbow Connection”, but as I got into my teens, I discovered this batshit fucking movie that not only STARS Paul, but was scored by him as well. The film sent me into a deep dive of Paul’s songwriting, and exposed me to just how brilliant he is.

It’s a very odd movie, and so are the songs, and not everybody is a fan. I can’t explain why it made such an impression on me as a teenager, or why it’s stayed with me all these years, but it’s essentially MY Rocky Horror Picture Show.

But I fully understand why people hate it. 😂

I’m just not one of those people.

J’ai vraiment pas pu arrêter de penser à ça. Mais sinon, #PhantomOfTheParadise, c’est l’un des tous premiers films de Brian De Palma, un film de 1974 qui parle de rock. Un sujet à la mode à l’époque et le style est assez vieillot, même pour du De Palma. Je m’y connais très peu en films sur l’industrie musicale des années 60/70, mais assurément avoir vu le triptyque d’e-Penser sur « Tommy » des Who m’a aidé à comprendre l’ambiance, la période (https://youtu.be/Gai8S21pMo0?si=hB_1CERWmoae7h-j).

J’ai eu du mal à rentrer dedans, ne voyant pas tout de suite où le film voulait en venir. Mais quand le fond s’est enfin révélé, j’ai kiffé, avec l’envie de le revoir en connaissance de cause.

Watched Phantom of the Paradise and am just floored.
Might be my fav phantom adaption, and I loved the directorial choices throughout the movie, it is such an interesting, uncomfortable shooting style - bringing us constantly too close or at a wrong angle.
I especially loved how it keeps framing us into one side of the mask, focusing on his wide-open eye.

Makes me wanna check out more of De Palma's lesser known works
