Yesterday, we had another super neat #Sandstone #Climbing experience in #Palatinate. The reaaaally long and big Burghalder Fels has some great #crack climbing and an almost-chimney that´s fun. Starting in the late evening, it was cool enough, and the late-summer sun brought out beautiful colors. It was 22:00 until we were back at our cars 😂 .
We tried the typically-alpine twin ropes to second simultaneously, and that worked super well!

The big-weekend-fun-run today! I designed a route along several highlights I hadn't seen yet, and to the highest point in running distance. So I ended up doing 27k with 942m EG in 5 hours 🥵. Really happy with the strength and endurance, this was a real challenge. The beginning (to the highest point, the lookout on mount Eyberg) was a 4k continuous climb, with as a reward a long downwards towards Dahn. After Dahn the very technical trails began, with sometimes very steep and very small paths. And to finish it of there was some 10 k of ups and downs to take me home to the campsite.

There is no other option here, only fun-runs to be done 😁. This was a combination of 3 local walking routes (the Wolf-tour, the Kauert-tour and the Burg Neudahn-tour). There was a substantial amount of technical trail, steep, small and rocky climbs, and many beautiful views. Took the time for a chat with a Forrest worker who was marking trees for removal, to ensure rejunivinating of the forest.
All in all it was a challenging and enjoyable 12,6 km with 360 m EG.
Oh, and the small green caravan is ours...#running #trailrunning #hardlopen #Pfalz

EDIT: ok, zumindest die 500m die wir in anderthalb Stunden geschafft haben, waren kinderwagengeeignet. Allerdings wollten die Damen heute ausnahmsweise laufen.

And also on holiday another fun-run done! Only this one contains more EG than any of my previous runs of this year at home 😅. But really spectacular course, the Dahner Felsen Pfad. A 12k route along several rock formations (Felsen) in peculiar shapes. It was still warm today so I was glad that a large part of the course was in the forest. But returning to the campsite I plunged into the lake immediately. All together it was 18k and nearly 500m EG.

It's my own last bottle, so there's that, but also--Philipp Catoir told me they haven't produced a Beerenauslese (typically, 160-200 g/l) in "quite some time" due to "changing weather conditions," i.e., too warm or heavy rain at the wrong time re: creating botrytis. (They WILL produce two Auslesen currently, he said.)
We might be nearing the end of the road for B.A. Let's hope not.
10% alc, $50 per half back then.

This 1999 Pfalz Riesling Beerenauslese was just stunning. But then, I expect these to be immortal, more or less, and exceptional. Dense and seeming very concentrated, it had plenty of depth, but impressive balance too, the acidity easily keeping this fresh and lively. It had just a hint of racy! Of course, it's delicious.A super performance overall, but it's actually a sad tale, wine peeps.
