Happy Petrov Day for those who celebrate, which, really, should be all of you.

Happy Petrov Day y'all!
(For anyone confused: #PetrovDay celebrates the fact that a nuclear war did not start after a false alarm in 1983 – but it was a close call. The whole story: https://www.explainxkcd.com/wiki/index.php/2052:_Stanislav_Petrov_Day)

Jeff "never puts away anything, especially oven mitts" Cliff, Bringer of Nightmares 🦝🐙 🇱🇧🧯 🇨🇦 @[email protected] ·Today is Petrov Day, where we remember Stanislav Petrov, and others like him (Including Vasili Arkhipov and Boris Yeltsin) who were faced with the choice of whether to destroy humanity or not and chose to not end us all and the entire heritage and future of this species.
Someday you, too might be forced to choose whether our species lives or not. We can make choices now to make this kind of choice less likely (ie include the PRC and possibly other countries in the New START negotiations), and to make it priority to teach young people the value in what Petrov did, and how important his choice was to all people living today.
We can remember their names, on this day, so that we can keep them around to remind us that it was a human being no different than you or I who made the choice - if they can do it, so can you.
