Not going to repeat the whole backstory here, but I met with the head organizer of the org I volunteer with today. I hadn't been looking forward to it, because it was not a happy conversation to have about another volunteer.

To my great relief, they took it seriously, didn't try to downplay its severity or possible consequences, didn't try to argue/contradict my report, and immediately agreed with my suggested ... well, not exactly a "solution" to the problem, but a workaround / update to how work is assigned to hopefully avoid us killing a client or three.

I feel enormously relieved after carrying it around with me for two weeks.

People are hard.

So... this person doesn't know enough about electricity to be doing repairs, because they cannot do so safely.

Not only do they not want to learn more so they can be safe, they do not believe there is anything to learn. They don't seem to think it's even possible for anything they do to be dangerous to anyone else.

They do not listen to clear, polite, advice about why what they describe wanting to do is not the correct way to approach the problem, even when they're coming to someone for information (or, more likely, to borrow what they need to do it).

Someday, this person is going to send one of these deadly dangerous "fixes" out into the world because they managed to get through it without someone more knowledgeable seeing or hearing what they were doing.

I'm at a bit of a loss for what to do. "Reporting" another volunteer to the organizers seems difficult or error-prone.

I dunno.
