Loops exists because the fediverse needed a short video platform.

While I could have implemented this in Pixelfed, we could no longer claim Pixelfed was algorithm free, or we could without the For You Feed, but that is what most people want.

I made the right choice!

Pixelfed does support video, and that will improve, but we shouldn't alienate the photo centric nature just to get more users.

We're not driven by metrics, we care about people.

So let them choose.

Screen Time is a feature I'm quite proud of, but it won't be ready in time for the alpha release.

The reason is that we need to update our apps to support this, so don't fret, it will be ready by the RC 😉

I want to make Loops fun and addictive, but in a healthy and ethical/safe way.

This and new safety features will give our community even more control over the content they see, and who can see their content.

Power to people-first platforms 🙌

The fediverse belongs to everyone, you cannot "steal" users from a fellow fedi project, as that whole concept of owning users belongs to the corporate silos we aim to replace.

People will pick the platform they like. Period.

What an amazing year for Pixelfed and our other projects like https://loops.video and https://fedidb.com

I started this year as the solo dev, and now we have a team of designers, developers and project managers.

June will bring a fresh new experience to Pixelfed, a stable/self-hostable and newly federated Loops and early access to Sup for our Kickstarter backers.

I'm opting to delegate management of the Loops project after v1.0, if things go according to plan.

While retaining veto power, I'll be stepping back to let our team leaders drive the vision forward.

My goal: build a solid foundation, then become a contributor who follows their lead – decisions shaped by our community's voice.

Building platforms for the people, with the people. That's the future.

No ego required. ❤️
