  1. Devastating #wildfires broke out in #Greece once again. After a fire on #Paros island, firefighters are now combatting fires on #Crete, the #Peloponnese, in #Boeotia (at the gulf of #Corinth), and most recently on a hill very close to the #Athens suburb of #Haidari.

Large plumes of smoke can be seen from miles away.

  2. I heard there's a trend on Mastodon about #silentsunday and it's usually dark photos. I happened to capture this few hours ago, I liked how the pigeons silhouettes are clear.

  3. 2/2

This early bottling has held great and won't die soon, but this tasty moment is as good as it's going to get. I'm actually a little surprised it held this well.

    Dive in.

  4. When you (or your little dog) startle a big snake they coil in outrage like they are boiling. They disappear into the undergrowth like one of Lovecraft's shoggoths.

The glass lizard looks like a big snake as it is meter long and legless, but it doesn't have the same fluidity - not surprising, as it has bone plates under its skin. I surprised one this week, and it faced us steadfastly. When I picked up my dog, it looped away moving swiftly but entirely unlike a snake, like a section of barely flexible plastic pipe come to life.

Today I saw the secretive sand boa living next to our melon patch. It's head was out of its burrow, but was completely covered in loose earth. There was only a glimpse of gleaming scales, and a tongue flicking out of the dirt. Then it got spooked, and calmly withdrew.

  6. Once upon a time there used to be an extensive network of narrow-gauge lines in #Greece’s south 🇬🇷. The voyage usually started (and ended) in #Athens at the #Peloponnese station.
Picture taken in 1985. The train seen here is, if I remember well, the overnight service from #Kalamata, hauled by an “Alco” Class 9100 and an “Alsthom” Class 9200.
