  5. Doing the deep dive into Christopher Alexander's A Pattern Language, which puts forward a theory of urban development (but also much much more). And now I'm dying to know what @davidwengrow.bsky.social has to say about it.

  6. "Christopher Alexander and his group of architects, back in the ’70s, compiled the groundbreaking book A Pattern Language, which looks at the built environment from a city scale down to the décor on your house walls in terms of the human relations that structures and spaces elicit."

    #Starhawk, 2016

AFAIK this is where digital design pattern thinking comes from too (eg Dark Patterns).

  11. Micro-architecural pattern: all rooms should have small strong hooks in the corners near the ceiling to facilitate the hanging of bunting. Make celebrating easy. #architecture #PatternLanguage

  12. @JamesGleick Good question! We're wondering that too as we plod away developing our #PatternLanguage portal... labs.publicsphereproject.org Thanks!

  13. So, that's the 1st #pattern (of 136) in the Liberating Voices #patternlanguage. That's the card and there's a link to the full version. Others to follow, but... (1) How do we share patterns in the fediverse? (2) How do we collaborate with them? (3) How can they be used to help bring about positive #socialchange? These are some of the questions that @ademoor and I (and others) hope to learn and implement. Thanks in advance!! @patternsphere @elipariser @pluralistic @samliebeskind @hrheingold

  14. As some of you know I (and 70+ contributors) developed the Liberating Voices #PatternLanguage with 136 #Patterns for Social Change. For Aldo's and my book in progress I developed a (not great) graphic showing the projects that we generated with the patterns. @pluralistic @ademoor publicsphereproject.org/patter

  15. 🌐 Pattern language design revolutionizes how we approach target domains - it's a massively parallel, abductive method for holistic design! But to truly harness its power, you need the right tools.💡 #PatternLanguage #DesignThinking #UnlockPotential intuitionmachine.gumroad.com/l

  16. The Kandariya Mahadeva Temple in Madhya Pradesh, India has a mesmerizing fractal-like structure that reflects the natural world and also adds strength to the building. #PatternLanguage #PracticalArt

  17. Porting an entire #PatternLanguage (aka #framework) into a different context with different forces and expecting it to work without adaptation seems nonsensical.

  18. Still figuring out best video settings here...

Anyway, I made a little SwiftUI app to chat with AI about the book "A Pattern Language", using OpenAI embeddings.

Relevant passages of the book are fetched and used as part of the prompt when responding to me/user.

This allows for a natural conversation anchored in the actual book – so, theoretically less 'hallucinations' from AI (varying with 'temp').
