For my big 3000th submission in the Mastodon arena (according to my server), I'm introducing a new set of posts...

Part 1 of a series—I haven't read any serialized, ongoing American print #comicbooks in well over a dozen years (I'm not counting limited series or webcomics). Yet our Mastodon community is small enough, and, in some ways, homogeneous enough, that I'm still one of our more solemn and earnest posters on that niche topic. On this specific platform, I mean. Since many of its American print comic market watchers are now inactive here. So I'm finally embracing the role. Tell me if the subject matter obscurity ever gets irksome, though, okay?

My surely idiosyncratic take on Russ Manning's #MagnusRobotFighter is that the pugnacious character lacked enough self-awareness to realize he was constantly doing 1A's bidding. Obediently demolishing all the mechanical beings to whom 1A felt superior; having been so indoctrinated and trained by 1A. In other words, Magnus Robot Fighter was the epitome of a robot, himself. Which casts his awkward moniker in a new light, doesn't it? I like to think this irony, this observation about human psychology, was always the deep point behind his original stories.
