    "'Currently 3,000 acres; change due to aerial mapping; containment is 5%. Minimal fire activity & smoldering observed overnight.

    Hwy 395 is open; Crowley Lake Drive remains closed between McGee Creek Road & Long Valley Fire Station.

    W/light to moderate rainfall over the fire, crews remain actively engaged & continue to build & improve containment lines.

    A local Type 3 Incident Management Team has assumed command as of 7am today."

  7. Sure hope they were able to get some structure protection around those homes, that perimeter doesn't look great.

    (never can tell if a home survived based on perimeter alone... depends on if fire units were able to protect a home, flammability of the home, brush clearance, etc. etc.)

  11. #Packfire Update: 10-20 homes impacted by fire. Fire continues to push towards Crowley Lake, wind speeds are currently 12-16 MPH out of the South with gusts up to 24.
    Aircraft have been grounded due to inclement weather.

  13. This fire has resulted in some local evacuations and the closure of Hwy 395; right now, it's a race between the wind and the rain and some structures are threatened in the meantime. As rain arrives and winds die down this evening, I would expect #PackFire to die down.

  14. #PackFire is now 1000+ acres and wind driven. Although it may seem counterintuitive, fast wind-driven fires do occur on Sierra lee side prior to cold frontal passages in fall/winter as strong & dry downslope winds (induced by mountain rain shadow) precede precip. #CAwx #CAfire
