A comparison with Japan in 1944 suggests Iran will resist fiercely and try to prolong the war to preserve its regime, while the United States risks strategic failure without a clear plan for victory. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/commentary/2026/03/12/japan/iran-today-like-1944-japan/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #commentary #japan #donaldtrump #iran #japan #pacificwar #potsdamdeclaration #us #dec7 #imperialjapan #israel #venezuela #emperorhirohito #alikhamenei #worldwarii #middleeast

Finished Pacific War Campaign 2.
Japanese were able to eliminate all US forces by the end, with the exception of the Marines on Corregidor.
They did lose the CVL because I forgot it couldn't park in an anchorage and was caught too far from a port at the end of the first operation
They did take some sub hits from patrols before the headquarters and sub command at Manilla were overrun.
Campaign 3 is just a combination of Campaigns 1 (Malaya), and 2 (Philippines) combined with the Dutch East Indies over the same time frame, requiring you to coordinate more forces.

Finished the Battle scenarios in Pacific War by polishing off Battles 10, 11, and 12 taking place in the Aleutians.
These battles see the Japanese trying to invade Attu and other Aleutian islands, then move in an engineer, and then try to defend against the US counterattack. I saw a draw and a couple of Japanese victories here.
So on the the meat of the game, the Campaign Scenarios.
Finished Campaign Scenario 1 Malaya. The Japanese won after taking out the Singapore and the Malaya Headquarters in the first week.
The Japanese Navy attacked Singapore from the sea, destroying the British naval units and destroying the fortifications.
The Amphibs landed troops on the north shore of Malay at two places, these advanced east to Singapore and west, then both went south around the mountains to finish off the last defenders by the end of the third month.
The Japanese don't have enough CPs to activate everything at once, but got the job done. Used navy and some ground troops for the first operation in December (no air units) timing the landings and initial battles at night to negate defender air, then for January and February, activating troops with some air support to break defenders with air strikes prior to ground combat. Worked well.
Looking forward to more Campaign Scenarios, lots of fun now after the learning curve of working through all the Engagement and Battle Scenarios.
Only took me, what... 2 years from when it was released? Worth it though.

Pacific War Battle Scenario 9.
The Japanese were detected early on approach, and they in turn detected the British before they could do any contact movement.
The Battle Cycle saw some maneuvering, then airstrikes on detected Task Forces. The British first scored a hit on a Japanese carrier. The Japanese elite pilot's dice were Hot Hot Hot, sinking a British CVL and Destroyer from one task force, and 2! Battleships from a second.
With 12 hits scored to 1 received , the Japanese then withdrew under cover of night, denying the British any further retaliatory strikes.
Huge Japanese victory. I think the British have to get their surface forces into contact to have a chance of scoring hits in this scenario, but it didn't happen here, the initial Japanese airstrikes were too devastating.
The Japanese then made it back to port for deactivation with 1 day to spare.
Note the errata for this battle, it is 21 days not 14 or you won't have enough time.

Packed up SCS North Africa. Axis was blocked up by Brits in the mountainous chokepoints, and Rommel died in his second battle... Way to roll 11, Erwin!
So on to Battle Scenario 9 of Pacific War.
This is the setup. Japan is the Operation Player, and they are out to sink as many British at Ceylon as they can.
Hmm, Firefox on Android will not let me attach pictures to a post. Only in Chrome then?

Played Battle Scenario 8: Leyte Gulf of Pacific War.
The Americans need to land troops at Leyte, (success), not take any transport hits (failure), and not lose any CVs (success).
The Japanese need to prevent the landing (failure), or sink a US CV (failure), so a draw.
The JP did lose 2 of their 4 carriers (2 CVLs) to the American's fleet of 8 CVLs. American have the naval adv. in this scenario but with luck the JP can beat them to the landing hex. Didn't happen here though.
