People should not underestimate the serious danger of what is happening now in the US. Even though it can seem bumbling, they are playing for keeps!
I am finding these 3 lenses to be helpful in understanding wath we see happening with the current #fascist US administration.
1. Seizing autocratic control of the US and fighting liberal democracy worldwide. I find this to be the most consistent and practical lens for explaining all we see, both domestically and internationally. Understand this as the goal, not a means to some other policy purpose. Within the government now, there is a bewildering hodgepodge of policy change and harassment. I understand the purpose of all this as to break the institutions which can resist autocratic control and to acclimate stakeholders toward autocratic function. This lens predicts a shift toward expanded efforts at autocratic control in broader society after consolidation of control over the government.
2. Project 2025: Much of what we see is closely following the plan in #P2025. Here is a progress tracker showing approx 1/3 progress now. https://www.project2025.observer/
Many on the social right will #autocracy as the means to a social end, and p2025 is written that way. Eventually I guess they will be disappointed. The plan aims at broader society after seizing the government, getting to the point where lot of people including #trans advocates are to be criminalized/jailed. (See comment)3. Dark Enlightenment? Aka neoreactionism /#NRx. I really don't know whether to take this seriously, but there are at least hints of association between this internet-native philospohy and some of the tech-world people connected with this administration. Autocracy/monarchy and/or some kind of cyberpunk-like political world direct objectives. In this direction, there is a rabbit hole of pro-dystopianism, so tread carefully.
