Yarvin seems shocked that Musk (with zero government experience except for a reliance on government contracts) is doing such a poor job. He also seems chagrined at Trump's specific actions, like tariffs, which are throwing markets into chaos. In political terms, the whole thing is a total disaster. By early 2025, millions of Americans are marching in streets and even Republican voters are showing up at town halls to express seething anger.
Yarvin seems to have come to a stark realization: If Musk/Trump fail to destroy the democratic system, extreme anti-government pseudo-intellectuals may face a bleak future. He urgently warns them against half-assing the revolution – and reveals his own fear of what might happen when the pendulum swings in the other direction:

But despite its impact on the current Trump regime, neoreactionary politics is not MAGA politics, as the tagline to James Pogue’s 2022 Vanity Fair article noted. The key reason is that neoreaction is not populist. The movement to Make America Great Again, Trump’s political base, is a classic example of right-wing populism, i.e., a movement that combines calls to intensify oppression with twisted forms of anti-elitism. MAGA politics is about defending privilege and attacking those who are seen as threatening it from below, but it also feeds on people’s sense of disempowerment, of being beaten down by a few people on top, a belief that those in power have betrayed “we the people” and must be stripped of their positions.
Neoreactionaries, by contrast, believe firmly that elites should rule and “the people” (Nick Land’s “howling irrational mob”) should not. Since Trump first entered the 2016 presidential race, MAGA aimed to mobilize a mass movement to overturn the political establishment, liberal and conservative alike. This initiative included not just electoral campaigns but also broad-based organizing and physical protests that culminated in the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol in hopes of overturning the 2020 election results by force. But neoreactionaries dismiss the whole idea of a popular uprising. As Yarvin wrote in June 2024, “Charlottesville [the 2017 Unite the Right rally] and January 6 were the last lame breaths of what John Adams called ‘mobocracy’ in America.” What Yarvin envisioned wasn’t a popular uprising, but rather to “hack” the system in order to break it.

People should not underestimate the serious danger of what is happening now in the US. Even though it can seem bumbling, they are playing for keeps!
I am finding these 3 lenses to be helpful in understanding what we see happening with the current #fascist US administration.
1. Seizing autocratic control of the US and fighting liberal democracy worldwide. I find this to be the most consistent and practical lens for explaining all we see, both domestically and internationally. Understand this as the goal, not a means to some other policy purpose. Within the government now, there is a bewildering hodgepodge of policy change and harassment. I understand the purpose of all this as to break the institutions which can resist autocratic control and to acclimate stakeholders toward autocratic function. This lens predicts a shift toward expanded efforts at autocratic control in broader society after consolidation of control over the government.
2. Project 2025: Much of what we see is closely following the plan in #P2025. Here is a progress tracker showing approx 1/3 progress now. https://www.project2025.observer/
Many on the social right will see #autocracy as the means to a social end, and p2025 is written that way. Eventually I guess they will be disappointed. The plan aims at broader society after seizing the government, getting to the point where lot of people including #trans advocates are to be criminalized/jailed. (See comment)3. Dark Enlightenment? Aka neoreactionism / #NRx. I really don't know whether to take this seriously, but there are at least hints of association between this internet-native philospohy and some of the tech-world people connected with this administration. Autocracy/monarchy and/or some kind of cyberpunk-like political world are direct objectives. In this direction, there is a rabbit hole of pro-dystopianism, so tread carefully.
