People have been talking about Overwatch and I was there super early on, and my first impression was that this game was stupid fucking chaos, but I was having a blast.
I don't know if anyone knows about "Simpsons Wrestling", but that old game wasn't serious. It was a colossal piece of shit by any objective measure, but special shoutout goes to Ned Flanders, who shoots down blots of lightning and resurrects at full health.
But that's not a bad thing and do you know why? Because it's fun with friends. And it's as simple as that. It's as some say, worse is better.
Overwatch had a similar "it's fun with friends" aspect to it. I remember planting Symmetra turrets around the enemy entrance, watching as the opposing team all fell to their deaths over and over. It was fucking amazing.
There was two problems though, one was the balance changes, which was to be expected, but it also felt like the new Heroes would always get released in an overpowered, unbalanced state.
Now, I can't say for sure, but it seemed like there was a desire to make the player feel like "their character" was the best character ever, which means every character needed to feel really powerful, but also it needed to be balanced - and do you know where this is going?
I think where I quit was when the Hamster got released. And it was bullshit, I wasn't having fun anymore. Now, you would think I would be okay with this, but at that point it was like trying to fit a circle into the square hole. It seemed like there was two conflicting ideologies happening.
In short, was Overwatch supposed to be deeply unserious like Simpsons Wrestling, or was it supposed to actually be like an actual competitive e-sports title? Because you can't have both.
