TL:NR. IMO Any discussion of the role of religion in society, especially
in terms of morals and ethics, ought to also address its major role in power relationships and the subjugation of ‘Others’ to its hierarchical rule — It was once ethical and morally acceptable to burn ‘witches’.There is also the matter of Christianity’s major outcomes, towit: a clergy drawn to excesses in religious and secular matters, a liturgy that is eschatology-bound and its dependence on guilt-ridden followers hooked on an after-death promise that exempts the Church from any guarantee of delivering on that promise.
There is no ‘religion’ without a ‘clergy’ and a ‘story to sell’. It should lead to the question: Who profits?

Bloody hell BBC, this might be of interest to some people in N Ireland but you have regional and sports channels for Roman circuses like this. Get off BBC2!!!

#Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, just as it is the spirit of an unspiritual situation. It is the #OpiumOfThePeople. The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is required for their real happiness. The demand to give up the illusions about its condition is the demand to give up a condition which needs illusions.
