Because I, I think it's a remarkable gift -
If it wasn't holding a blade to my neck, the Gadash's #ophidian features might have fascinated me -swirls of green and blue across a scaled snout
Observing them for a month, we saw no sign the Gadash might he sentient or that they had even noticed us
Life on this planet cared nothing for humans
I tried to move and the obsidian point pressed harder against my skin
I groaned in pain
The Gadash's airsack inflated & it imitated my sound
And pulled the blade away
For now

The creature was passably human, even up close. But, carefully prying the mouth open with her pencil, she could see that it lacked canines. In their place were sharp, #ophidian fangs, and....yes, the tongue was forked.
"Disgusting", she muttered, standing and brushing the dust from her pants.
Without warning and with a vicious hiss, the figure's eyes snapped open and it launched at her, mouth open, fangs slick with venom.
Unflustered, she stepped to the side to avoid its lunge, and pushed the pencil straight into its eye it went past.
It went down almost instantly, collapsing to the dirt, twitching slightly.
"Rude", she said. "Stay down."
