Spent all day (~2:00pm-Midnight) working on some personal & work #Linux servers and getting them REALLY dialed in. I had both #CheckMK and #OpenVAS pointed at these guys and nothing but golden silence. (First time having CheckMK with no warnings)
There's still some more stuff I want to do, but it's been years since I could just spend hours working on fixing every minor issue.
It's nice to have all the quick fixes removed and have it all back to "as expected, no notes". Missed this.

Some personal update: Last year was a rollercoaster to me with a lot of ups and downs. I've switched jobs but unfortunately my new employer had become insolvent. Shortly after I decided to take some month off from work and to switch back to #Greenbone afterwards the employer even become bankrupt. So here we are, I am back at #Greenbone working on #OpenVAS directly again 🙂

A new year and a better commitment toward achieving 100 days of blogging, consecutively, hopefully.
Over the past few days I set up SecurityOnion in a VLAN dedicated toward security applications. It joins Greenbone for performing credentialed scans via openvas and an all-purpose Kali VM for anything/everything.
While it wasn’t difficult to install SecurityOnion, I did have to do some […]

Today’s goal is to get #securityonion and #openvas working…
It has taken several reinstallations but it looks like this time SecurityOnion will finally take. I plan on placing a monitoring node on each VLAN as well as using the span switch I have between the modem and my router. This will take a bit of time to get fully set up but am piece-mealing it.
While waiting for the installer […]

Hi everyone :)
We have moved the Greenbone Community Edition Docker containers to self-hosting. The instructions at https://greenbone.github.io/docs/latest/22.4/container/index.html have been updated and the new registry location itself is "registry.community.greenbone.net/community"
The old images on Docker Hub will no longer be updated. If you have questions or issues please head on over to the community forum at https://forum.greenbone.net and thank you!

Why are there so many complicated terms surrounding Greenbone? How does our vulnerability management system work? What do the components do? And how do they interact?
We believe that everybody should be able to understand cyber security. Greenbone's Joseph answers these questions and more in this video to give you condensed insider knowledge in a digestible format, so check it out! :)

Our docs contain a guide on using the Greenbone Community Edition on Kali Linux now 🥳 https://forum.greenbone.net/t/kali-linux-install-guide/16598 #kali #openvas #greenbone

The Greenbone Community Containers include some rather big images: greenbone/scap-data, greenbone/vulnerability-tests and greenbone/notus-data. With the changes on the NIST side for the scap data, this specific container even will triple its size to more then 3 GiB. Therefore I am currently working on shrinking the size of all these three container images #greenbone #openvas

The release of gvmd 22.5.2 did break the Greenbone Community Containers and also source builds. See https://github.com/greenbone/gvmd/issues/2038 We are actively working on a solution! #greenbone #openvas

Hi! We have another Community Video :) In this one Joseph Lee from the Greenbone Community demonstrates how to do a quick first scan using the scan wizard to scan a local network IP and go over basic scan report formatting and other features.

Our first Community Video is done! 🎉 It's a tutorial and walkthrough on how to install the open source Greenbone Community Edition using Docker containers here at https://community.greenbone.net/blog/installing-community-edition-using-docker-containers/
If you’d like to follow along with the instructions- head on over to the original documentation by @bjoernricks at https://greenbone.github.io/docs/latest/22.4/container/index.html
Let us know what you think! Did you find it helpful? And what would you like to see in upcoming videos?

Hi everybody, currently the feed.community.greenbone.net server is not available and therefore the synchronization with the Greenbone Community Feed is not possible.
We are already working on it but there is no ETA yet. We are going to post an update when we will have some more news about the issue and we apologize for the inconvenience. #Greenbone #OpenVAS

Did you know that we have preconfigured containers for the Greenbone Community Edition? Here's insight into the why and how with @bjoernricks and @FeilnerIT over on our community blog at https://community.greenbone.net/blog/docker-container-for-greenbone-community-edition/

Improving the situation for our #Greenbone #OpenVAS community is still one of my major ambitions for this year. One point on my list was to rewrite our shell based feed sync scripts in #Python. Finally I had some rare time to work on this :party_parrot: and I am happy to announce the first release of https://github.com/greenbone/greenbone-feed-sync 🥳

Is there a good architectural overview of #OpenVAS (or specific documentation)?Which helps me how it works on Windows, Linux, and MacOS? Especially how an authenticated scan works?

I love this time of year. Summer is starting to end, falling beginning to role in. For me, this is the calmest time of year.
Work stuff!
Still trying to get PostgreSQL working on my security server so that OpenVAS will start working again. That has been annoying, but I was given someone to reach out to for assistance, hopefully that plays out.Our web app pen test should be wrapping up in the next few days. I am very curious to review the findings.
I'll also be working on some other odds and ends like macOS updates being pushed tonight, continuing to get users over to 2fa (still), PII alerting in GCP, among other things.
LETS GO!#security #postgresql #openvas #webapppentest #macos #2fa #gcp

There's nothing like building the wrong servers for the SOC 🤌.
I'm going to spend some time rebuilding some Linux servers for a new scanning tool our SOC uses. We've decided to move away from Nessus (not my decision, but I'm open-minded). I still utilize OpenVAS for all of my narrowed subnets and specific endpoint stuff though. I'll post more about the tool as I familiarize myself with it.
