  2. Some personal update: Last year was a rollercoaster to me with a lot of ups and downs. I've switched jobs but unfortunately my new employer had become insolvent. Shortly after I decided to take some month off from work and to switch back to #Greenbone afterwards the employer even become bankrupt. So here we are, I am back at #Greenbone working on #OpenVAS directly again 🙂

  3. Hi everyone and sorry for the short notice but the Greenbone/OpenVAS vulnerability scanner community feed is offline for maintenance today Jan 16, 2025 through tomorrow sometime in the morning (CET) Jan 17, 2025. We'll keep you updated with any new information as needed and thank you so much for understanding.

  4. A new year and a better commitment toward achieving 100 days of blogging, consecutively, hopefully.

Over the past few days I set up SecurityOnion in a VLAN dedicated toward security applications. It joins Greenbone for performing credentialed scans via openvas and an all-purpose Kali VM for anything/everything.

While it wasn’t difficult to install SecurityOnion, I did have to do some […]

  5. Today’s goal is to get #securityonion and #openvas working…

It has taken several reinstallations but it looks like this time SecurityOnion will finally take. I plan on placing a monitoring node on each VLAN as well as using the span switch I have between the modem and my router. This will take a bit of time to get fully set up but am piece-mealing it.

While waiting for the installer […]

  6. Hi everyone :)

We have moved the Greenbone Community Edition Docker containers to self-hosting. The instructions at greenbone.github.io/docs/lates have been updated and the new registry location itself is "registry.community.greenbone.net/community"

The old images on Docker Hub will no longer be updated. If you have questions or issues please head on over to the community forum at forum.greenbone.net and thank you!

  7. Why are there so many complicated terms surrounding Greenbone? How does our vulnerability management system work? What do the components do? And how do they interact?

We believe that everybody should be able to understand cyber security. Greenbone's Joseph answers these questions and more in this video to give you condensed insider knowledge in a digestible format, so check it out! :)

  8. The Greenbone Community Containers include some rather big images: greenbone/scap-data, greenbone/vulnerability-tests and greenbone/notus-data. With the changes on the NIST side for the scap data, this specific container even will triple its size to more then 3 GiB. Therefore I am currently working on shrinking the size of all these three container images #greenbone #openvas

  9. We are pleased to announce another installment in our video series on learning Greenbone! 🥳

From the basic filter interface and report customization to understanding the power filter syntax and useful tips and trick - this video will help you get started using this powerful feature or dig even deeper if you are a seasoned user!

  18. Hi everybody, currently the feed.community.greenbone.net server is not available and therefore the synchronization with the Greenbone Community Feed is not possible.

We are already working on it but there is no ETA yet. We are going to post an update when we will have some more news about the issue and we apologize for the inconvenience. #Greenbone #OpenVAS

  19. Improving the situation for our #Greenbone #OpenVAS community is still one of my major ambitions for this year. One point on my list was to rewrite our shell based feed sync scripts in #Python. Finally I had some rare time to work on this :party_parrot: and I am happy to announce the first release of github.com/greenbone/greenbone 🥳
