I am using the iipsrv IIIF image server ( https://github.com/ruven/iipsrv) for displaying the huge Tabula Peutingeriana at https://omnesviae.org/tabula

My experience is that it serves pyramidal tiffs (created them with gdal) much faster than the jp2 files I created with OpenJPEG.
