24 now (you are not the only tardy one, I only added mine the other day, yep it's an age thing wrapped in a reflective thing), some just mention #oer24 briefly, some discuss in detail - and some like this, ask good questions about good conferencing in general - I'll jot a comment down at the end of yours now (before I forget).
& yes, very yes, to the importance of "sitting one out" during the conference, either to look about the place or to really get into the conversations that count

This was my second time to attend the OER conference. The venue being Cork meant a train journey for me so off to a great start. And having got to my hotel, Isaac's, and discovered that Frances Bell was staying there too and we could share the commute out to MTU (and learned the secret way of the 207 bus thanks to Anne-Marie Scott), well that was another win, as we had much catching up to do.

Another amazing keynote from @rajiv, this time at the ALT #OER24 Conference in Ireland (There’s also a great section in this recording, before Rajiv, from eCampus Ontario which I highly recommend).
I love Rajiv’s use of a persona to tell the fairytale-not-so-fairytale story of an educator navigating higher ed, trying to “teach in a way, to quote bell hooks, that respects and cares for the souls of their students.”
I’m also a particular fan of the way Rajiv characterised the turn in the story, from aggressive commercial publisher marketing to the discovery of OER at OEWeek:
It was at that first session that they met *a librarian* 🤓🦸♀️🪄📚A couple of other key quotes I noted:
- On institutions supporting educators to do the work in open ed: “Educators cannot be left to do it alone or even the brightest flame will burn out.”
- On automatic textbook billing: “Large publishers have sought to repaint themselves as the saviours of those suffering at the hands of their own business model… Inclusive Access, for me, is akin to leasing a faulty fire extinguisher from a serial arsonist.” 🔥🧯👀🙊Please, go watch the thing. You’ll be inspired, infuriated, and incited to action — All in.
