  1. CW: About the horrormovie Obsession - rape mentioned, suicidal thoughts mentioned - Long post

    I genuinely think Obsession (2026)

    imdb[dot]com/title/tt37287335/

Was a very very good movie. But according to what i read online most people dont get that it perfectly shows how rape usually happens.

    Movie Context
The Movie is about Bear a "quiet" guy and a good friend of Nikki
After breaking a "One Wish Willow" to fullfill his wish that Nikki loves him more than anything, Nikki becomes obsessed with him
Even after finding out that who is now in love with him is not Nikki. The body is the same but Nikki is not in control anymore.
Nikki begs him to kill her since she does not have control over her body anymore
Bear does not stop having sex with her and starts to regret doing said wish. Not because he is sorry for Nikki but because she is to obsessed and he is uncomfortable.
He even almost cheats on Nikki with her bestfriend even though he literally forced Nikki to be with him

In my opinion the movie touches alot on the fact that even your quiet bestfriend is a potential rapist. It also kind of represents the Stockholm syndrome in some way.
I think it really well represents this kind of fear.

People online often defend Bear and that the urge he had was normal. That he couldnt know it would actually work and work this well.
And that it wasnt rape since she initiated it.

Ignoring the fact that the main problem with Bear is that:
even after he found out that Nikki does not consent to being controlled by "magic" (who couldve guessed) he does not stop.
Which also makes it rape since she even begs him to kill her.
And it is also rape if you drug someone with aphrodisiac... so yes a wish that makes someone obsessed with you is not automatic consent
Oh and ofc the most important. He put his needs always first and only wants sth to change when he "benifits"

this is just a brief talk about the movie. I think i will write a blogpost about it at somepoint.

  2. Obsession is a very good film. I have a few quarms with it, but won't spoil anything. You can tell it's a film director's debut, but an impressive one at that. My 6.5/10 score gets raised to an 8/10 solely for the performance of the lead actress

    CW: Obsession (2026) Spoilers

    Obsession Movie Review [Spoiler Alert]

So, on a work day, I take the day off, and go to this movie, and halfway through, my fitness tracker was convinced I was working out.

The movie was Obsession, the dark horse that took Hollywood by storm.

The theatre was almost empty, except for a small trickle of people who, living up to the reputation of us Indians, were chit-chatting loudly and keeping their feet on the seat in front of them.

The movie starts off well, appearing to be a small-town one-sided romance between young adults. Who among us can’t relate to it?

One fine day, Bear walks into a shop that sells metaphysical trinkets like crystal balls, talismans, etc. In the shop, he discovers a widget which grants the user one wish, which he wants to gift his crush.

But, out of desperation, and half-jokingly, he uses it himself. He asks for Nikki to love him more than anything in the world.

The story takes an absolute U-turn here. Nikki starts behaving like a maniac, obsessed with him, taking the relationship to an extreme level. She becomes this whole new, unrecognisable person. The film revolves around that obsession.

A still from one of the crazier scenes.

I’m not the biggest fan of horror movies. I’ve watched very few of them. This was a fresh take, and it genuinely impressed me.

The movie has jump scares and scary sound effects. But the movie has more cards up its sleeves than just that. The part that gets me is the number of times the story twists and turns. You can’t guess what happens next. The story oscillates between normal and crazy more times than you can count. The leads’ acting was fantastic. I was absolutely terrified!

The moral of the story is: Be careful what you wish for! Literally, be very careful while making a wish.

Am really glad that the movie took less than a million dollars to make and grossed about $300 million! Well deserved.

    9 out of 10.
