😋 If you're ever in the Fremont, CA area and like seafood, may I suggest going to Ray's Crab Shack? They're know for their seasoned seafood boils, but we go there for their lobster rolls. I actually purchased a subscription to a streaming platform today...

I've canceled all of my streaming and use the following apps to watch series/movies:
- Kanopy (free, no ads, uses library card)
- Hoopla (free, no ads, uses library card)
- Locally hosted Jellyfin (runs off my laptop connected to wifi - I need to move it to an RPi...) loaded with shows downloaded from Internet Archive (no piracy here, I swear)

(note: I'm considering buying bluerays and ripping them to load into Jellyfin - that might be interesting)

I realized I was still watching Youtube. And their ads / algorithm is killing me. A friend had purchased Youtube Premium and I was not impressed.

I further realized all of my favorite content creators have channels on Nebula. No ads, no meaningful algorithm. Just subscribe to the channels you like and watch them there. $6 a month. And the money goes to the creators. The streaming service is creator-owned.

So I get my youtube fix... without youtube.

Today I replaced four old timey 1960s light switches and upgraded the outlet in the main bathroom to GFCI.

I did it in under an hour which included hunting for tools, and cleanup. #NotAnAd, but the Leviton lever edge stuff makes it so much easier/faster.

Kind of annoying how Home Depot has exclusive distribution w/ them, though.

With everyone being so focused on Ty and Pyrefly right now, I'd like to put a lesser known type checker in the spotlight for a second, called Zuban.

I know, yet another Python type checker, just what the Python ecosystem needs! But hear me out, this one is genuinely exciting to me.

It's made by a long time Python ecosystem contributor, who you might know for creating Jedi.

Of course, it has all the goodies you'd want these days, which is a good CLI, an LSP, being written in Rust for performance, etc.

But it also aims for Mypy compatibility with zmypy, making it a great potential option for existing projects using Mypy that just want something faster.

I reported a couple of issues which got fixed in a span of hours too!

I'd say give it a go, don't expect perfect results, but report issues if you find them :blobcatthumbsup:

Success! I was able to get a hold of a set of Medium length "Ruthenium" aka "Dark Chrome" #StrapLocks S-Locks. #Schaller quit making this color a few years ago. I looked around a few different places and even had an order canceled. I don't get why they quit making this color. A ton of guitars have this kind of hardware finish. Installation pictures coming soon.

Invasive house sparrows are terrible! So prolific that our poor native bluebirds really struggle. It takes gobs of time and active management to ensure a bluebird couple can establish a nest, but even then the threat isn't over. They need your help!

I use two-hole boxes. With the extra hole they can generally defend the nest. I get mine from JackQuest on Etsy. Well priced, masterfully built.

Not an AD, but he is part of my naturalist chapter. I don't get anything. I just like supporting a friend, cool dude, and bird advocate who does great work.

#NotAnAd, but I just love how the Steam Deck is pretty much the device I always wanted.
I won't bore y'all with its gaming credentials, you heard it before. No need to beat that particular drum.
But because Valve doesn't try to prevent it from being a PC, and thus lets you put Kodi onto it, it is also a great movie player for roadtrips, as I found out when a collegue and I had to drive 300km to a client for a project.
I know, it's not 1080p, let alone 4k, but that doesn't matter in a car.
