@SubplotKudzu Well – fine. When as it ever been a bad thing to cannibalize the work that somebody else has already put in? Piggyback; run it on the same night. See how many people come to actually play RPG rather than play a board game.
Grab enough of them and they will object, then they will INSIST that you put it on a different night. Which is what you wanted in the first place.
But you have to do two things absolutely:
- You have to promote it with a very limited number of slots. No more than six. Push that point. Make getting in a commodity. Make people wish that they had made it in that night. Make it something rare for the first few sessions so people want to fight for it.
- Do your own promotion as well as let them promote and piggyback off of it. You know where the RPG players are; tell them that it's going to happen. Encourage them to get in touch with the library and find out how many slots are left.
You also want to leave the door open to running games which are not D&D 5E if the initial few nights go well because, I know this is going to come as a shock, but not everybody likes D&D. Be lining someone up to run a sci-fi game, preferably much more narratively oriented mechanically.
Subversion. It's the only way to live.
