It really is striking to me how many people would have so many problems solved for like an entire year if someone just handed them $1,000...
Like, seeing someone recently getting pulled out of a rent-hole by a little under $1,000 of #MutualAid over the course of a few months, before they had to do something that put them in debt, really drives home the realization that just giving people a little extra money, as in #UBI or #NegativeIncomeTax, can go a long way in stabilizing their finances...

"The negative income tax is a way to provide people below a certain income level with money.
"In contrast to a standard income tax, where people pay money to the government, people with low incomes would receive money back from the government."

A negative income tax would indeed eliminate the moral hazard - if it replaced all other benefits. I can see that being a win individually, economically, and socially.
Is that the sort of proposal you would support?

I see the #UniversalBasicIncome debate has reignited in Brexitania, and on antisocial media at least it appears to be going down like a bag of sick, with references aplenty to removing incentives to get lardy arses off sofas.
Reframe #UBI as #NegativeIncomeTax, and even the swivel-eyed 'libertarians' are in favour of it. The problem here is one of communication.

@evan @mpjgregoire #NegativeIncomeTax and #UBI are just minor variations on the same theme, either one would be a huge improvement on the status quo.
