A writer named Cory Doctorow makes the point that what matters is not the AI, what matters is who is using the AI to do what to whom. That is what is being missed by seeing the ai itself as evil, or some secular equivalent.

Chatbots can be provoked to same some very interesting, perhaps useful, things.

The real enemy here, besides the technobroligarchy, is the proliferation of data centers, and the burden which they put on the environment.

But, where is the market which will pay for the data centers? What will the data centers be bringing to market? Well, it will be fantasy imagery, graphics in 3d, and high definition video. Data centers are not about being elaborate slide rules or about solving ultimate equations. They are about providing fantasy cinema.

I had been noticing that nearly everyone connected to the empire was wearing a necktie, so I told a chatbot that I wanted to see a non-definitive surjection of a normative set of human motivations upon the symbolic form of the necktie.

The result was useful, and it did not require a new data center to do it. #necktie

Last time for me was a relatives wedding, nearly a decade ago - even when I was working in public service in 2000s I rarely wore one (Tony Blair even said it was no longer necessary) and have never done so at my current job - I'm often doing hardware installs or even vehicle and building maintenance work, so it would be a safety risk anyway #menswear #clothing #fashion #necktie :BoostOK:

This was yesterday's completed prototype. I'd never made a Dresden Plate before, so this was challenging on 2 fronts.
The plate is from thrifted silk neckties. The background and binding are cotton fabrics from my stash. The overall size is about 21" square(-ish) (53 cm), and the Plate is about 15" (38 cm) across.

OK, here is today's finished piece. It measures overall about 34" x 31" (about 86 x 79 cm). It's called Bang! Bang! Bang! I was using this as a prototype for creating a commissioned piece. The red pieces are made from silk neckties. The black background is all cotton from my stash of fabrics. The red binding is cotton from my stash.
