Article says "All of its machines are supplied with Ubuntu pre-installed", which means it is not Android/iOS which #CoMaps would natively support.

While #CoMaps does have experimental Qt port which would run on Ubuntu Linux, it is currently buggy and not really usable for production AFAIK.

Would would be more targeted question, is what was #Navit (which does run on Ubuntu) lacking that they needed the newapp (apart from its somewhat 1990s UI - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navit)?

I use #navit on my #SailfishOS phone, but there are no updated maps of Europe as a whole since April 2024. And now my brain the whole time: eff it, I'm gonna do my own maps, with black jack and hookers!

Comaps ou OsmAnd ?

After about 5 years we finally did it, the next version of #navit is released now!

For everyone reading who doesn't know what Navit is, it's a fully offline #openstreetmap based #navigation software for many different systems. With #geoclue it also works well on #mobilelinux. But we also have an app for #android.

The #navit wiki has been offline since a long time now. But I finally got around to revisit the migration from #mediawiki to @readthedocs. So far it's not finished, but there is great progress. I already opened the PR at https://github.com/navit-gps/navit/pull/1281 to get the nice preview from #readthedocs

I installed navit (0.5.6-6) on my pinephone pro under manjaro linux. It works, but the position by GPS does not work (so no GPS for navit)... However it works perfectly with gnome-maps...
Does anyone have a solution to this, if so thank you very much in advance, Pierre.

Today I (re-)discovered #Okteta which is really useful for optimizing and reimplanting the binfile driver for #navit.
I am currently in the process of writing the structure of the binfile tile format as a structure which is really easy. Only thing I find that Okteta is missing is the ability to jump to the next struct in order.
The tile format is basically a singly-linked list and it would be nice if it would be possible to jump to the next item.

@jsonbecker as much as I like using #Navit on a #RaspberryPi carputer and #OSMAnd on my #GrapheneOS Pixel, there are things Google does better.

Установил #navit на raspbian (debian).
Утилита maptool как и положено установилась вместе с пакетом.
Возможно удастся запустить карты.
Странно почему в arch на десктопе она не установилась - она должна была быть в составе пакета navit.
