BREAKING BIG AND (potentially) VERY VERY GOOD NEWS: 📢
Austria's environment minister, Leonore Gewessler of the Greens announced today spontaneously that she will cast a positive instead of a negative vote tomorrow at a meeting of all EU environmental ministers in Luxemburg.
This is BIG NEWS as after extremely violent farmers protests in Brussels earlier this year, several EU countries stopped backing the landmark law that would put the duty on member states to enforce extremely ambitious and far reaching environmental protection policies. Austria was among several other countries to oppose the law.
Gewesslers move is an unexpected and unilateral break away from the position of the national coalition partner of the Greens, the conservative ÖVP.
A majority vote for the law tomorrow is still on a knife's edge yet Gewesslers move could make the difference to turn the tide.#EU #Greens #naturerestauration
