The UK Big Butterfly count numbers are reported really low. Long term trends and a dreadful wet and cool 2024 Spring and Summer. BUT mostly the last UK government allowing toxic pesticides to be relicensed for use, that kill our pollinators. I believe it’s essential for #ClimateEmergency & #NatureEmergency to offer alternative, biodiverse land practices. For me, it’s a #WoodMeadow, a landscape extension of a #ForestGarden.
I’m off to the European Conference on Ecological Restoration in Estonia in August to discuss & research #WoodMeadows & their management. And I’ll be publishing copious notes & photos! Any help towards the costs would be greatly appreciated, thank you 🙏 🌳

How do we live together in #nature? #WoodMeadows, a managed & productive #ecosystem, can achieve this balance, a model of human activity benefitting #biodiversity.
And I want to create a #WoodMeadow in #Wales.
For research, I went to 14th European Conference on #Ecological Restoration in August in #Estonia, where wood meadows are amongst most biodiverse sites in the world

Let's teach forest gardening practices in folks gardens, stopping use of herbicides, insecticides & other poisons/chemicals
We need wildlife ponds, planting for pollinators & predators with nitrogen fixing & nutrient mining species to support plants & trees. Then we're supporting the soil food web, the foundation for all life on the land

Brexit was supposed to transform land management, some MPs have other ideas.
Makers of agricultural chemicals have funded a group of MPs that is campaigning against the rewilding of the countryside and has pushed back against efforts to restrict pesticide use.
