  1. "[Conestoga College] increased foreign enrolment by almost 150 per cent from 2021 to 2023, nearly tripling its total revenue over a three-year period. You can see why the purse strings might have been a little loose."

Hard to believe Canada outsourced immigration policy to organisations that directly made money off it. And Sean Fraser is still a minister!

  2. Apparently the renovations of the House of Commons propose desks to remain for the front benches, and benches with foldout trays for those in behind.

    nationalpost.com/news/politics

Not sure how I feel about this. I note that the Mother of Parliaments has benches only, no desks. But Canada's #Parliament has always had desks.

  3. "The court had the genuinely tricky choice between interfering with Parliament’s re-definition of its own privileges, and thus stepping on parliamentary supremacy, or allowing Parliament to surrender privileges that were axiomatic to Confederation, that were reasserted at the time of constitutional patriation and that have always been said to be at the heart of the Constitution."

They agreed on this: the people who make the laws, and who answer to voters, must retain the final word on the great policy questions, at least provisionally, at least subject to the democratic check of the next election."

"So to recap the Liberals’ spring economic update: there is a sovereign wealth fund that is not a sovereign wealth fund, a capital budget that is not a capital budget, a balanced operating budget that is not balanced, a commitment to spend less while actually spending more, and a plan to invest more in things that are not really investments."

  6. Conservative MP speaks out about how the Liberals tried to poach her
    nationalpost.com/opinion/terry

My own view is that MPs ought to have the power to cross the floor, but they should rarely exercise it. Really what Canadian Parliament needs is more MPs acting independently of their party leaderships.

Several analysts said privately that extreme uncertainty about what will happen in the conflict makes it almost impossible to model the demand impact. But without a swift resolution, the economic consequences could be profound."

An RBC report released Tuesday confirmed that new investment in Canada has completely collapsed during the Liberals’ tenure in power. “Between 2015 and 2024, more than $1 trillion of investment exited Canada — the largest capital exodus in Canadian history,” the report says. “For every dollar of inward FDI, two dollars exited.”

It added that the rate would be adjusted to reflect any increases in pay schedules, meaning this number may have gone up over the past two years. When instead they throw up a fake "something technical went wrong" message, it's just gaslighting. It's an insult. Yes, I'm looking at you, Postmedia sites.

[1] It's funny, I read the dead-tree editions of various newspapers for decades and never looked at the ads, and they didn't seem to have a problem with it then.
