When I read the stories about Prof. Arday, my first thought is not about the sorry state of academia, or the victims of his lies — my first thought is that he must have the gift of the gab to a superhuman degree, charm oozing out of his every pore, a fascinating story to answer every question, the self-assurance of a demi-god. I expect that his students loved him.

@RuthODay2 Messrs. Chrétien, Martin and Harper did a good job bringing federal budgets into balance, and (not so much for Mr. Harper), paying down debt. More recently our governments haven't been so wise, though to be sure it was right to go into deficit during the #covid19 pandemic.
I don't think the #NationalPost would say anything different. Do you?

I don't think Parliament and the voters always come to the right decisions — How infrequently have general elections had the result I desire – but: the Charter does not have answers to all tricky questions of public policy; judges are ill-suited to consider the effects of policies and craft compromises; and I think it's clear that if laws work out differently than expected, it's easier for Parliament to make changes.
