For those of you in the USA, or nearby and on the NANP (North American Numbering Plan, with +1 country code), have any of you ever gotten a spam text from a shortcode?

I'm getting ready for the next quarterly release of Number::Phone, and as usual it has caused me to become racist. Today I hate the #DominicanRepublic (or maybe I just hate #libphonenumber) because one of them thinks it's acceptable to have 0 or 1 in the D digit of a #NANP number (https://github.com/DrHyde/perl-modules-Number-Phone/commit/2af154); and I hate #Canada because they changed the format of one of their data files (https://github.com/DrHyde/perl-modules-Number-Phone/commit/5e0eab).
Bastards. Making me do work.

Where I live, they added a second, overlaid area code a few years ago because "we're running out of numbers". The entire population is ~1M... how can ~10M numbers be in use?
Is #NANP now run by methheads?

@olafurw In the North American Numbering Plan, the 555 numbers are never assigned to phones. Also (any)-867-5309 because of a certain popular song.
#nanp #phonesEdit: wikipedia says the number in the song can still be assigned if you really want it. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/867-5309/Jenny

It's amazing how many people don't realize that area codes and office exchanges cannot start with 1 and cannot end in 11. We've only been using this numbering system since the 1940s!
