Global climate models appear to overestimate changes in droughts and heatwaves with climate change!
That is what #MPIScientists Junhong Lee and Cathy Hohenegger have discovered by comparing course resolution climate simulations with much higher resolution ones. They found that precipitation is less strongly correlated to soil moisture as a consequence of resolving convection explicitly.
How does this align with observations? Is this good news for the AmazonRainforest?

Announcing the new MPI Grand Ensemble! In a multinational collaboration, Dirk Olonscheck and other #MPIScientists produced 30 realisations of the historical climate and 5 of the #CMIP6 emissions scenarios.
With high-frequency output and comparability to higher resolution simulations, this data is specifically suited to investigate regional climate extremes.
