  1. The best, and only really good, shot from yesterday's storm chase. This is from Whipple Observatory road, looking west over I-19 and the town of Amado, AZ.

This storm stayed around for quite a while and I captured many bolts, but most were faint compared to the bright backlight of the setting sun. So many bolts! And so few worth trying to even edit. This one came out better than I expected. Not quite print-worthy, but decent.

  6. Was watching the radar and feeling bummed that Tucson, 130 miles away, was getting the storms, but then the little puffy cloud-that-could lit up red (rain core) on the radar. I grabbed my gear and drove 5 minutes to my favorite spot where I hung out for 4 hours and got two nice shots.

  16. To The South.

Storms are passing to the south of us this evening. I decided not to chase in that direction because it’s a work night and I have to be up at 0500 to get the workday started. Hence, I’m doing some lightning photography from our roof top.

Here’s the Santa Ritas getting struck, probably near one of the copper mines.

And I enjoyed taking this photo. Even though it’s a shot of cloud to cloud lightning, I like the thunderstorm cell positioned behind our neighbor’s palm tree. It has a nice classic, small cell shape to it.

Mother Nature lighting up her own work is pretty awesome.
