  18. I love how when talking about Luo Wenzhou’s parents and Luo Yiguo, it’s always “the cat of their own flesh and blood”, especially as compared to their actual son 😂 #MoDu

  31. Turns out Priest is not my type of author after all. Even though I dropped Guardian (Zhen Hun) novel about halfway through, I still wanted to give her writing another chance.

Silent Reading (Mo Du; 默读) is better, it got me hooked much easier. I love that she doesn't focus on romance as such, her stories have plot and substance beyond "will they won't they" trope. That's good. Her characters were able to pique my interest quite easily, interesting dynamic and circumstances of their meeting, impressive power balance. I genuinely had high hopes... but as I kept reading I realized that it's NOT the type of storytelling I enjoy. Simple as that. Too meticulous, too detailed for the sole purpose of creating certain atmosphere but at the same time with emotion processing it's the other way round. We have police procedural? Then you're gonna learn every excruciating bit of action and evidence. We have an emotional moment? You're gonna read between the lines. I guess it might work. But sadly it doesn't really work on me.

I'm still in the middle of the last book and tables might turn. And it's one of those cases where I hope they will but I doubt it
