SO came in and tried to tell me what was for dinner while i was in the middle of changing my integrated dynamics machine that controls the day/night cycle and the weather using some modular routers and the ars tablet of sunrise and tablet of cloudshaping. apparently i lose the ability to comprehend/speak english when i'm trying to keep an entire program in my memory and rearrange parts of the machine at the same time (the part ids in integrated dynamics change when you move them, and you have to update all the corresponding references in the program any time you do)

You don't actually need to be familiar with Java nor do you need a Java IDE, a text editor and a terminal are more than plenty.

Buckle up, though, for the next big block is just around the corner, where we kick off Season 2 of our Shared Hardcore runs, where this time, the Enderdragon isn't the end goal... How will we fare now that we have our sights set on killing both the dragon as well as The Wither in a single, shared life? Stay tuned to find out!

I would have done the same for the final three streams we had last year, but it was quite apparent after the third stream it wasn't worth continuing.

Made my first ever Minecraft (1.7.10) mod, World Accelerator, and got it listed on Modrinth! https://modrinth.com/mod/world-accelerator
It's a block that increases random and block entity tick rates. Tl;dr, it makes furnaces run faster and plants grow quicker. It's more useful for modded Minecraft than survival, but then I did make this block specifically to speed up Forestry apiaries. :blobreach:

Ah Winter, so cold and dreary, perfect time to grab some cocoa, a warm blanket, and cozy up to some random twitch streamer struggling to survive on their isolated island against all sorts of environmental hazards. Braving harsh winds and fierce storms, cascading cave-ins, and the occasional wild animal bushing our hero from the darkness.
Amongst this struggle we hope to carve out a place for ourselves to not require as much effort to survive, to varying degrees of success. Maybe some day our hero will have a sprawling camp full of industry, agriculture, and comfort...

We will return here a few more times back in 2022, before shelving Underdog for a good while at the end of the year. At this point in the playthrough, things were actually starting to pick up, and we were making some decent progress towards starting our industry!
For now, though, enjoy the calm and slow pace, for that won't last once we return in a few years...

Luckily farming has been quite a fruitful endeavor, providing us with much more in return than we can deal with. Our mineral acquisition has been slowly improving as we find more veins across the known landscape, but it's going to be a while before we start seeing any meaningful progress on the base, I'm afraid. At least there isn't anything that can irreparably disrupt this progress... Right?

Aside from all the frost it's and nightly wolf attacks, working on this little island of ours was quite nice! Sure there was the odd hailstorm here or blizzard there, but rotating our little cropland and growing a bit of a cache of food for ourselves was really feeling rewarding!

More time spent on our cozy little island today, spelunking the depths for minerals, sailing across the water for exotic crops, and generally gathering materials to carve out a place to call home for ourselves.
It took a while to fully grasp this, but at this point in the playthrough I wasn't aware that I was playing an Expert Pack. I thought this pack was focused on providing a low-tech survival sim. What I ended up getting was grindy and a bit Sisyphean, especially once I got into the early/mid tech phase of the pack, but we'll get to that.
Maybe someday I'll find the perfect pack for me...

We're back again today with another look at the challenging yet fascinating modpack, Underdog. Fun fact, when I was planning on making the sequel to There Will Be Blood, this sort of emphasis on environmental difficulty rather than brutal combat that it's predecessor focused on was exactly what I was going for, and I really enjoyed these early stages of the pack! Honestly I wouldn't mind returning if it weren't for changes that occurred due to pack updates, but we'll get to those later.
All in all, the pack does what it sets out to, and I have since found a different pack that has grabbed my attention. Maybe someday we'll do some streams of that...

We jump forward in time for today's VOD, leaving the world of ancient China behind for something more personal, less frantic.
We found a modpack that, at least early on, felt very much like the ideal pack I intended on making when I built There Will Be Blood years prior. Without mobs and combat making life difficult, the environment and systemic mechanics are left to drive the difficulty, and in some ways it does.
It's a slow burn for sure, but this pack definitely stood out and was engaging to play through for a time.

Does anyone have any #Minecraft #Modpack recommendations that add to your own personal sandbox projects, rather than giving you a factory game-style pre-determined vertical progression?
I really enjoy the sandbox gameplay loop of vanilla Minecraft worlds where I keep on doing personal projects I come up with myself (build lighthouse, build railway network, build automatic mob farm, whatever). The vanilla game itself doesn't really give me 'tasks' other than, like, tool tiers I guess.
I feel like in contrast, most mods and modpacks have a pre-determined progression path that you have to follow. Ore doubling to tripling to quadrupling. Build machine X or you can't have machine Y. Grind for N resources to continue.
It really took away all the creative fun I had and turned the game into a checklist-like chore.
I'm looking for modpacks or mods that work similarly to redstone in terms of #GameDesign. Easy to acquire, non-gated, infinite applications to your own projects, just a tool in your sandbox.
Some mods are like that, such as #Create. Some mods usually labelled Vanilla+ also fit the bill. But I don't know of many modpacks that really add only this kind of content.
I don't just want decoration mods, QoL/performance mods and tweaks, I want content, tech and magic.
A good example is the old storage mod #ArcaneArchives. Just a simple, non-gated enhancement to storage.
Any recommendations?

Game modding is so stupid now with AI bullshit everywhere!
Like, I want a #Minecraft modpack that someone actually took time to design, balance and test. Not just something thrown together without a second thought.
It used to be relatively easy to tell apart good from bad mods. Good mods were passion projects with creative names, art and descriptions, because they were collaborative efforts. Bad ones were, like, called "Ultimate Epic Minecraft Best", with a shitty generic image as their logo and no description.
But now, a significant amount of mods and modpacks have the same AI generated logos and/or descriptions that all sound perfect and mature.
The worst thing about this?
Both good and bad mods and modpacks now come with AI logos/descriptions! There's some really good mods that use AI for logos and descriptions because the creator isn't a native speaker or a 'good writer'. It's like that in every game now!
You can no longer tell apart a passion project from random trash now.
Back in the day, passion project creators simply asked other community members to create art for them or to refine their description. It was just a part of how the modding community worked and thrived! Nowadays, they'll just use AI because it's convenient.How am I supposed to know whether someone just used ChatGPT to write a pack description for their excellent modpack because their English sucks, or whether they're a kid who AI generated the whole modpack as a financial grift?
