Have you already tried using 2 #compressors in serie when #mixing your #music?
It will usually sound more transparent if you combine 2*3dB gain reduction than 6dB in one go.On dynamic material, use a first compressor that's fast, and only shaving the peaks, not compressing all the time.
Then add a slow compressor, for example an optical comp, with a low ratio and low threshold, compressing all the time a little. It will bring consistency to the track, making it sound fat too.
