Ich musste gerade am #MinimalPhone #mp01 in #Pastiera "Deutsch/qwertz" auswählen um qwerty zu erhalten.
Irgendwas in einem Zwischenlayer vertauscht Keycodes und die Hardware-qwerty-Tastatur muss nochmal verdreht werden um z/y richtig rum verwendbar zu machen?
Das funktioniert auch alles am #Titan2 marginal schöner. Das MP01 ist kompakter/leichter (und eink ist draußen ungeschlagen), aber das Titan bleibt einfach das bessere Gerät. -

Ich hab Ende März/Anfang April ein #MinimalPhone #MP01 erhalten und seitdem ununterbrochen als mein Hauptgerät verwendet.
Es war eine Zumutung.
Jetzt keine dramatisch schlimmere als jeden Text auf Touchscreen-Tastaturen tippen zu müssen oder im Sommer auf LCD-Displays draußen lesen zu wollen, aber trotzdem eine Zumutung.
Das ist schade.
Es hätte so viel Potential. Und die Hardware ist nicht mal annähernd das Hauptproblem!
Aber jetzt in der dunkleren Jahreszeit, wenn die Vorteile des Displays deutlich geringer wiegen als die Nachteile, wechsle ich doch eindeutig wieder auf ein "klassisches" #Smartphone zurück.
Das ist in meinem Fall mein maueraltes Xiaomi #MiA1, was mindestens ähnlich viele Nachteile hat… (und das eigentlich schon mindestens 3x von einem neuen Gerät in meinem Besitz ersetzt wurde) evtl. muss ich mal irgendwann was taugliches besorgen. Leider ist der Markt geflutet mit Schrott und taugliche Geräte sind sehr rar. -

I really like my Light Phone 2, but living without a camera has been a little too limiting, and the folks in my life would really appreciate me at least getting that capability back. After receiving the case today and the phone getting a few updates, primary SIM is back in the Minimal Phone. I’ve actually missed using it and looking forward to giving it another shot at full time use.

Die Idee ist nicht grundschlecht. Ein knappes Dutzend Zeilen mit Programmnamen, Scrollen nach rechts/links öffnet jeweils ein anderes Programm und nach unten öffnet die alphabetisch sortierte Liste aller Programme.
Nur die Details…
Fixes Limit auf 8 Programme? Warum 8? Platz ist nicht das Problem, nach unten wäre noch für mindestens eine Zeile Platz, evtl. zwei? Man könnte danach die Größe anpassen? Und wenn man Uhr/Akku/Datum oben ausblenden würde, würden 3 weitere hin passen?
Stattdessen bleibt dann halt leerer Raum auf dem Display.
Dann die durchsuchbare Liste aller Programme… kein scrollen, sondern Blättern, keine Icons weil keine Farbe - alles super!
Eine Seitenzahl unten wäre evtl. sinnvoll?
Und warum zum Henker muss ich erst oben auf die Suchleiste klicken bevor ich etwas eingeben kann? Das Ding hat eine Hardware-Tastatur, lass sie mich gefälligst nutzen!

That #MinimalPhone #MP01 is a clusterfuck of "this doesn't work right" and "you have to ignore that".
There's still tons of bugs in the software and even just the selected screen technology is a constraint in itself.
But then I've used it moderately yesterday. Listened to podcasts for like 2h, read a book for an hour, reacted to notifications, wrote messages, switched some things in homeassistant, …
And then when I went to sleep it still had 73% battery left.
This, having a keyboard and "able to read in brightest sunlight" excuses most of the problems. -

Ubuntu/Debian (bzw. GDM) scheitern auch noch immer daran eine Keyboard-Layout-Änderung des einzigen Nutzers auch systemweit zu übernehmen. Du hast von qwertz zu qwerty gewechselt? Login-Screen weiß nichts davon!
Das sind alles so dumme Sachen, da sollte man meinen dass das schon seit 2000 keiner mehr tun würde?! (als ob!) -

I live in America and am on Mint Mobile. I am totally blind and use an external keyboard. I own a Galaxy A15, and while it works well, it's simply too large and wide for my needs, especially when I need to hold it to use Seeing AI (for scanning printed materials). My specifications shouldn't be too difficult to find, and yet, they are.
Android 14 or 15. Technically, I can go as low as 12, but I would really rather not.
Upgradable if possible.
Comes with Talkback pre-installed (or able to have someone install it). I have also heard of MicroG, an alternative to Google services that allows such apps to be installed, so that could work as well.
No larger than the iPhone SE 2022, unless by a tiny amount. Smaller is fine.
Headphone jack.I am considering the Jelly Max, the Fonepia Q10, and the Minimal Phone. Has anyone here tried any of these in the United States? I don't think the Max has a headphone jack, but as much as I want one, I would be willing to sacrifice it if necessary. I know almost nothing about the Q10. The Minimal contains a real qwerty keyboard, so I wouldn't need to carry one. I don't care what they do with the screen, since I can't see it.
Am I missing any other good phones? I would like to keep this undder $350 at the most, preferably under $300 (Minimal might cost more, but could be worth it).

Went to start the process of moving my Pixel Watch to the Minimal Phone from my Pixel. Discovered there was a transfer option via the app.
Literally 3 mins later my watch was connected and transferred to my Minimal Phone.

Wenn jetzt noch der Bug mit dem fehlenden screen refresh gelöst wird, bin ich endlich mit dem Gerät zufrieden.
Akku hält inzwischen auch deutlich über einen Tag, seitdem das Ding nicht mehr alle 2-3min sichtbar aufwacht, blinkt und Display mehrfach refresht. Da hilft aber sicher auch dass die Display-Helligkeit inzwischen erträglich einstellbar ist.
Ist alles etwas bananig, aber reift immerhin zumindest doch irgendwann? -

Ich bin ja enorm leidensfähig…
Kann fast alles an Bugs des #minimalPhone ignorieren, aber jetzt löscht es das Display fast überhaupt nicht mehr?
Mal eine Weile an den (ebenfalls sehr kaputten) Displayeinstellungen rumgedreht oder reboot - dann tut es wieder für ne halbe Stunde oder so.
Ziemlich sicher Software-Fuckup? Sehr scheiße jedenfalls! -

Auch so ein Ding am #minimalPhone...
Android schaltet den Bildschirm aus und startet danach den Lock-Screen
Bedeutet das E-Ink-Display würde weiter das Letzte von vor dem Sperren anzeigen.
Der Fix vom Hersteller besteht in einem zusätzlichen Bildschirmschoner. Der wird aufgerufen wenn gesperrt wird und der zeichnet dann den Schriftzug "minimal" auf hell oder dunklen Hintergrund. (alternativ einen Comic-Panda-Kopf, aber keine eigenen Bilder oder so)
Das Display zeigt also zwingend nutzlosen Scheiss.
Und dann wacht das Gerät alle 2-5min auf, schaltet Beleuchtung ein, zeichnet den Lock-Screen (nein, nicht nur bei Benachrichtigungen), wartet bis Bildschirmtimeout, zeichnet den Bildschirmschoner, wartet kurz, schaltet die Beleuchtung aus.
Wunderbares geflacker! Hell/Dunkel/Hell/Dunkel...
Wenigstens macht der Bildschirmschoner einen vollen refresh - nicht wie bei meinem Likebook, wo nur quick refresh gemacht wird und dann sieht man de Text vom Buch durch den Sperrbildschirm durch.
Software ist eine Pest! -

the screen is low res and small (while the phone is large) - it doesn't even save enough power to get superb battery life
the keyboard is the worst hw-keyboard I used since my Droid 1 (but that had dpad and number row!)
software is horrible
BUT it's the first phone that feels like it's doing something new in far over a decade
I like it.
I don't even hate typing every single word. Worst keyboard is still far better than none!

Das #MinimalPhone ist nach keiner gültigen Definition irgendwie "minimal".
Es ist so groß wie alle anderen, es kann so viel wie alle anderen (NFC/WLAN/Bluetooth… dazu Keyboard und Display das für Sommer draußen geeignet ist)
Es ist als E-Ink-Reader einer der besseren. Endlich mal nicht komplett durch Software/SoC/RAM-mangel kastriert! OnLeihe in ruckelfrei? Beliebige Lese-Apps für FanFiction? Browser der mit allen mobilen Seiten klarkommt?
Das Keyobard ist okay, aber einige Entscheidungen beim Layout sind… komisch?
Die Software krankt am stärksten an genau jener Stelle. Wenn man nur englisch ohne Sonderzeichen tippen will, geht's völlig okay. Aber wer will das schon?
Mit Custom-Firmware hätte die Hardware so irre viel Potential! Bootloader ist auch entsperrbar.
Und dann bleibt immer ein "aber es hätte so viel geiler sein können" - z.B. in kleiner (um Bezel reduziert reicht), als Slider, …
Aber das ist halt nicht als Indigogo-Projekt machbar und war auch nicht zu erwarten. -
#MinimalPhone, Fazit erste Tage:
(Vermutung war: "bestimmt okay für billig-Hardware zu teurem Preis, aber Software wird stinken")
- Tastatur ist okay, aber die Software dazu nervt etwas. Ich kann mich glaube an die meisten Eigenheiten (z.B. alt/shift vorher drücken, DANN zugehörige Taste) gewöhnen, aber z.B. für … oder ß hab ich noch keine Lösung? Dafür gibt's hundertausende Emojis zur Auswahl? Yay?
- Google-Software auf'm Gerät ist noch immer eine Pest. Die zu reduzieren ist mehr als ein Tag Arbeit.
- kein root, keine custom firmware (noch?)
- das Gerät ist groß - noch minimal größer als Pixel/MiA1/Fairphone
- Software die niemand auf Schwarzweiß-Bildschirmen getestet hat nervt. Animationen kann das Ding einigermaßen (ausreichend für ein erklär-Video zwischendurch), aber Farbe halt überhaupt nicht. Hellblau/Hellgrün/Hellrot unterscheiden? Viel Glück! (9 von 10 Programmen sind benutzbar)
- Akku hält bestenfalls marginal länger als bei anderen Telefonen. Das ist erbärmlich. IDK warum? E-Ink sollte deutlich Strom sparen. Softwareproblem?
Und dann so paar dutzend kleine Ärgernisse… um die muss ich noch rumarbeiten. Z.B. ist ConnectBot unverwendbar und Termux muss man etwas rumbasteln - und auch danach verhält sich das Keyboard da trotzdem anders als in jedem anderen Stück Software.
Vermutung jedenfalls bestätigt.

Das #MinimalPhone ist eingerichtet und so langsam komme ich mit allem einigermassen klar.
Endlich wieder blind aufm Telefon tippen! Draussen lesen können ist auch nett.
Ding ist nur: ich hab jetzt keinen eingeübten Ablauf für Bilder mehr!
Bisher habe ich Fotos von meinen Kameras auf's Telefon geschoben, dort evtl leicht nachbearbeitet und da Sternchen vergeben für das was ich posten will. (daher auch manchmal das eine oder andere Bild mit unscharfen Details oder miesen Farben von mir - was ich auf dem Telefon nicht gesehen hab, rutscht halt so durch)
Nur jetzt? Auf E-Ink Farbentscheidungen treffen ist keine Option. -
