The 3DMEs are nice because I can dial in how much (or little) ambient sound I hear, so I can get a little more of the top end of my arco playing in Band situations, while still getting good fundamental via the DI. I’ve not had this productive a day in the practice room in a long time. I got the nod to play the 2nd Bassoon part in Gounod’s Petite Symphonie on double bass and it’s at once kicking my ass and validating. I'm appreciating the free wifi on this aircraft, as well as the fact that I'm kinda mashed into my seat and still able to work without contorting my body. Just did a fun arrangement of some music for brass quintet and woodwind quintet for funsies, now going to turn my attention to this big band thing I’ve been meaning to do.

The more typical performance style of this piece is by military marching bands (Mehter band). Heck, I'm sure I saw one of these bands play it when I was in Istanbul a decade ago.
