This all started because Kyle Crane, an agent sent into a fictional Turkish City to find documents that basically implicate the GRE, and could lead to a cure.

He is the 31st survivor in The Tower, and at first I was very confused as to why a lot of Turkish people were laughing about it, refused to elaborate.

Years later, I remembered the incident and actually did some research. Apparently, the reason why this is because culturally, talking about masturbation openly is taboo. They needed a way to reference it covertly...

So they came up with a clever linguistic way to do so, and given the way Arabic works and letters can have numeric value...One thing leads to another. Soon you get: el çekmek. In this case: 'e' has a value of 1, 'l' has a value of 30. Add those together and what essentially reads as, "Pull 31". The 3 can be assumed to be the hand and the 1 can be assumed to be one's dick.

I am really paraphrasing here, but this is a wildly interesting topic. Here is where I got a basic understanding of why this is even possible. People are amusingly creative!
