  1. Microphotographs of a broken solar cell showing the soldering spots between the bus-bars and the silver-paste fingers.

On the front side of the cell the silver paste fingers are much thinner, as the goal is to extract as much current while shading as little as possible.

On the rear the silver paste is spread much thicker.

I'm not sure about the exact scales here - maybe around 100um for the thinnest features. Will check once my micrometric scale gets here.

  3. Amaia Alcalde Anton (scientific and medical finalist): From Butterflies to Humans, 2023

This is the brain of a butterfly undergoing metamorphosis as new neurones are born through a process called #neurogenesis. Studying this process can provide valuable insights into how the nervous system is formed, as well as brain disorders, says scientist Alcalde Anton.

  4. Definitions in #photography … 🤨

#macroPhotography is the practice of making small objects look big…

    so logically…

#microPhotography would be the practice of making big objects look small. I guess like #astroPhotography does…

BUT, and this really pisses me off, it turns out that many photographers believe #macroPhotography = #microPhotography, cowardly replacing the hard '=' with weasel words like 'basically the same'.

Cut that shit out people, it makes as much sense as dietary calories.

  5. Image of a copepod taken through a light microscope. The organism was around 1mm in length.

This is a stack of 12 images taken at different focus depths and then combined.

Este tubo es fundamental, pues puede resguardarse en él. Los cilios alrededor del rotífero con forma de mariposa generan corrientes que llevan el alimento a la boca. 📷 Rogelio Moreno #microscopia #microscopy #microphotography #microfotografia #microbiologia #microbiology

The black manganese oxide “plumes” in this Australian opal serve as a good example of art and science merging in gemology. Photomicrograph by Nathan Renfro, field of view 5.85 mm.
