Among the Jewish leaders were #JonathanGreenblatt, chief executive of the #AntiDefamationLeague, and rabbis from significant #synagogues in New York."

Stealing cultural heritage is a crime against humanity. The stories of these bad actors and their quests for power through looting, destroying provenance and archeological contexts are my favorite “real crime” tales. Seems like a corollary to war. I just ordered this book from my neighborhood bookstore, the Secret Garden in Ballard realease June 2.

The BBC simply presents the police's statistics: 173 arrests, 10.5% crime reduction, 21% VAWG reduction, 1 false alert, without any independent audit data, methodological critique, bias statistics, or counter-studies.
For instance, a Cambridge study found no deterrence effect, the NPL bias report showing 100–248× higher false positive rates for non-white faces, or documented wrongful arrests.

Taken together, the studies suggest that:
• Live Facial Recognition can identify wanted individuals with high accuracy when used under appropriate conditions.
• Mistaken identifications appear to be very rare in operational deployments.
• The technology identifies some demographic groups more successfully than others, which raises questions about fairness that require continued monitoring.
• Crime deterrence effects were not observed in this study.
• Because #LFR scans very large numbers of people to identify a small number of suspects, decisions about its use should carefully consider issues of proportionality, transparency and oversight.

A reminder that in spite of a High Court judgement declaring the #UK government's ban of #PalestineAction unlawful, the #met #police decided to resume arrests of people holding signs carrying the PA name. This weekend, 500 people got arrested, including the frontman of #MassiveAttack, #RobDelNaja. You have to wonder why the Met made the strategic decision to waste resource being on the wrong side of history & legality.

The police in the UK think they can be trusted with facial recognition data, including destroying all images not relevant to reported crimes.
And yet, they could not be bothered to correctly document the location of the theft of the PM’s righthand man’s phone. The messages and data held on this phone were a matter of utmost national security.
